Mahela Jayawardene reacts to MI’s elimination from IPL 2026 Playoffs race: ‘Not good enough’

Mumbai Indians (MI) head coach Mahela Jayawardene admitted the five-time champions were “not good enough” this season after their playoff hopes ended with a narrow two-wicket defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Raipur on Sunday. “It’s disappointing, we’ve had our opportunities, we were not good enough, we were not consistent enough with the ball, with the bat and that showed the margins,” Jayawardene said after the match. “I think, you know, we were probably 2-3 wins away from being in the same group of contenders to get into that playoff, but we didn’t get those wins and today was another classic example that we were short,” he added. The MI coach said injuries and niggles disrupted the side throughout the campaign and forced several changes to the playing XI. Cervical cancer is one of the few cancers we already know how to defeat. When detected early, it can be cured in more than 90% of cases. And, more importantly, it can also be prevented. Yet, it is the second most common cancer among Indian women, and cases in India account for the second highest burden in the world. The challenge lies not in the absence of solutions, but in early and equitable access to them. Today, two-thirds of women in India are diagnosed only after the disease has spread, and when survival rates drop to around 46%. Cervical cancer (Freepik) India has made commendable progress in building the foundation for cervical cancer screening through the National Programme for Non-Communicable Diseases, NP NCD under the National Health Mission. Yet, despite years of effort, only 40% of eligible women have ever been screened. In some states, the rate is still below …

US on verge of losing its measles elimination status. Here’s why that matters | World News

US on verge of losing its measles elimination status. Here’s why that matters | World News

It’s been a year since a measles outbreak began in West Texas, and international health authorities say they will meet in April to determine if the US has lost its measles-free designation. Experts fear the vaccine-preventable virus has regained a foothold and that the US may soon follow Canada in losing the achievement of having eliminated it. The reevaluation is largely symbolic and hinges on whether a single measles chain has spread uninterrupted within the U.S. for at least 12 months. Public health scientists around the country are investigating whether the now-ended Texas outbreak is linked to active ones in Utah, Arizona and South Carolina. But doctors and scientists say the U.S. — and North America overall — has a measles problem, regardless of the decision. “It is really a question of semantics,” said Dr. Jonathan Temte, a Wisconsin family physician who helped certify the U.S. was measles-free in 2000. “The bottom line is the conditions are sufficient to allow this many cases to occur. And that gets back to de-emphasizing a safe and effective …

Why Peter Leko chose to stay back in Goa despite elimination

Why Peter Leko chose to stay back in Goa despite elimination

It was an awkward afternoon phone call in early October that put veteran Hungarian Grandmaster Peter Leko in a dilemma. The call was from FIDE, requesting him to consider staying back in Goa if — or rather when — he got knocked out of the FIDE World Cup 2025 to join the official commentary panel. Leko had to make a choice. He didn’t want to juggle being a player, a commentator, and a trainer at the same event. Even so, the idea of staying back in Goa lingered in his mind. “I gave them (FIDE) so many reasons why this is not wise. I didn’t know how long I would survive in the tournament. Vincent (Keymer) is playing; I have to take care of him. If I get knocked out, then Vincent gets priority. I would like to join the broadcast, but I just cannot guarantee anything,” Leko recalls. “FIDE said that no matter what happens, we stand behind you and we count on you, and we will sort out the situation without any pressure. …
