In a first, 25 visually-impaired students from Pune to embark on Himalayan expedition | Pune News

Vijay Bagal, a 17-year-old visually impaired student at Pune’s Pimple Gurav-based Mamata Andh Anaath Kalyan Kendra, was confounded when he learnt that 25 specially-abled inmates of the centre, including himself, will get an opportunity to go to the Himalayas. Bagal, who studies in Class XI at Modern College in Shivajinagar, sought some clarity about the ‘trip’ from the organisers and then quickly made up his mind. “I realised how rare and unique this opportunity would be. So, I immediately signed up for the trip. I am looking forward to experiencing the Himalayas,” said Bagal, who shifted to Pune last year with his twin sister who is also visually impaired. Back at home in Satara, his family consists of his father and grandmother who earn their living through farming. City-based NGOs Swaroopseva and Love Care Share and the well-known mountaineering group Giripremi have come together to implement this unique idea. The expedition, scheduled for May 2024, will span six days and will be funded through public donations. “The acumen of a visually impaired person surpasses that …

Also India will play the red-ball format only in September at home against Bangladesh, courtesy an avalanche of white-ball matches, including the IPL and the T20 World Cup in June. So, it might seem like there is zero incentive to toil in some remote grounds across the country over the next month and thereabouts. But in reality, a whole lot more is bubbling beneath that seemingly staid surface of insignificance over this Ranji Trophy. No one will be …
