Shafali Verma Returns To T20I Side For England Tour, Fit-Again Yastika Bhatia Also Comes Back

Attacking opener Shafali Verma on Thursday returned to India colours after a gap of seven months as she was included in the national T20I squad for the five-match away series against England, starting from June 28 in Trent Bridge. Shafali was out of the Indian team from October 2024 on account of modest form but she could not find a place in the ODI squad for the three-match series against England, which was also announced on this day. Perhaps, her fine outing in this season’s Women’s Premier League (WPL) for Delhi Capitals where she aggregated 304 runs from nine matches at a strike-rate of 152. In fact, she was the fourth highest run-getter in the WPL behind Nat-Sciver Brunt, Elyse Perry and Hayley Matthews and the highest run-maker among the Indian batters. Another player to make a comeback was wicketkeeper Yastika Bhatia, who was sidelined since last November due to a wrist injury sustained during the Women’s Big Bash League. Unlike Shafali, Yastika is a part of the ODI squad as well. Besides …

New Zealand (96), South Africa (90), and Sri Lanka (82) remain in fourth, fifth, and sixth places, respectively. However, South Africa lost nine rating points despite retaining their position. The rankings update takes into account matches played from May 2022 to April 2024 at a 50% weighting, and matches after April 2024 at full value. As a result, South Africa’s 2022 World Cup semi-final performance is no longer counted. This change also affected the West …

‘Not Taking Any Pressure’: India’s Parunika Sisodia After Win vs England In U19 Women’s World Cup Semis

Not worrying about pressure and being “ruthless” have been the hallmark of the Indian team so far as it aims to retain the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup, said left-arm spinner Parunika Sisodia after guiding her side to the final of the prestigious tournament on Friday. India are just win away from retaining the title when they take on South Africa on Sunday and Parunika said the team enters every match with the determination to dominate. India crushed England by nine wickets to set up a summit clash with South Africa, who defeated Australia by five wickets in the other semifinal. “We have made it our motto that we are not going to worry about pressure, we are just going to enjoy the game. Whatever happens, we will go through it together. It’s ’11 against all’,” Parunika, who returned excellent figures of 3/21 in four overs, told ICC after the match. “We have been playing together for seven or eight months. Our support staff has always been there and made sure we are …

Heather Knight Left Fuming After England Lose 2nd T20I vs Australia Due To Rain. Watch

England faced a shocking six-run (DLS method) defeat in the second T20I of the ongoing women’s Ashes against Australia on Thursday. With this win, Australia are 2-0 ahead in the three-match T20I series and have already won the Women’s Ashes. The match, which was curtailed by rain, saw a brilliant fighting knock from England skipper Heather Knight while chasing the revised target of 175. Knight scored 43* off 19 balls but her side still fell short by six runs, which forced the England skipper to give a controversial gesture. In the last over of the match, England 22 off 6 balls to win. Knight hammered a boundary on the very first ball of the over of Annabel Sutherland and England were hopeful of a stunning win. However, fate had other plans in store as the rain got heavier and match had to be abruptly stopped. With a score of 168/4 in 19.1 overs, England were six runs short of DLS par score. Resulting which, Australia were declared the winners. Knight, who was batting …

England Blasted After Women’s Ashes Series Loss: “Are You Improving…”

England Blasted After Women’s Ashes Series Loss: “Are You Improving…”

Following England losing the Women’s Ashes, former men’s captain Nasser Hussain has raised the question if the side has been making any improvement under skipper Heather Knight and head coach Jon Lewis. Hussain’s stern words come after Australia retained the Women’s Ashes with a win in the first T20I at the Sydney Cricket Ground and take an unassailable 8-0 lead in the multi-format series. Though there are four more games left, it looks unlikely that England will make a fightback to at least draw the series. “The reaction and what has happened reminds me very much of when we were playing out there. I don’t think we were whitewashed – and this England women’s side haven’t been whitewashed, but they’ve lost their first four games.” “The Ashes have gone; I lost them in 12 days, Heather Knight in nine days – albeit different formats. It must be hugely disappointing. Australia have shown their class. To put it in context, just how good Australia are as a cricketing nation, they haven’t lost an ODI …

“I’ve Been Hung Out To Dry By England”: Ex-Player Drops Bombshell On Teammates, Takes This Star’s Name

England’s Alex Hartley with teammates.© AFP Former England spinner turned broadcaster Alex Hartley has claimed that several senior players gave her cold shoulder and Sophie Ecclestone even refused a TV interview with her during the ongoing Women’s Ashes because she criticised fitness standards of a few players after their early exit from T20 World Cup. Having gone down in three ODIs and the opening T20, England have already lost the Ashes. Following England’s defeat in the opening T20 on January 20, Hartley said she was ignored by players. “Sophie Ecclestone refused to do a TV interview with me today,” she told the BBC’s TMS podcast. “I’ve been hung out to dry by the England team: none of them will talk to me on the boundary edge. “The reason I said that they were not as fit as Australia is because I want them to compete with Australia, I want them to be better than Australia, and I want them to win Ashes and World Cups. I’m giving my opinion, and I’ve been given …

Women’s T20 World Cup 2024: West Indies Beat England To Enter Semi-Finals

West Indies defeated England by six wickets as Hayley Matthews’ side joined South Africa in advancing from Group B at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. Chasing a target of 142, openers Hayley Matthews (50) and Qiana Joseph (52) launched a blistering assault, both scoring half-centuries. A rattled England dropped several chances, and their four wickets came too late to stop the West Indies from sealing the victory with two overs to spare. Earlier, a brilliant performance from Nat Sciver-Brunt had set West Indies a target of 142. England had been reduced to 34/3, with Deandra Dottin starring in the field. However, Sciver-Brunt led a superb recovery, scoring an unbeaten 57 from 50 balls to guide her team to 141/7. Afy Fletcher was the pick of the bowlers for the West Indies, taking 3/21, while Dottin contributed 1/16 in three overs, along with three catches and a run-out. England also suffered a blow when captain Heather Knight sustained a calf injury, preventing her from taking the field in the second innings. She could …

Sophie Ecclestone Stars As England Crush South Africa By Seven Wickets

Women’s World Cup 2024: Sophie Ecclestone© Twitter England put up an all-round show to outplay South Africa by seven wickets for their second successive win in the Women’s T20 World Cup in Sharjah on Monday. England’s four-pronged spin attack led by Sophie Ecclestone (2/15) strangulated South Africa in the death overs to restrict them to 124/6 after they opted to bat on a tricky wicket. In reply, England lost two wickets inside nine overs, but thereafter opener Danni Wyatt-Hodge (43 off 43) and Nat Sciver-Brunt (48 not out from 36b; 6×4) took complete control of the chase, romping home with four balls to spare. The duo put together a match-winning 64-run partnership that came off just 55 balls. Danni got stumped against the run of play. But by then the equation had boiled down to 11 from 12 balls, and Sciver-Brunt sealed it in the final over smashing Ayabonga Khaka for a boundary through extra cover. Following a sedate start, South Africa lost four wickets in the last four overs and managed just …
