Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke on Thursday said they will release an education manifesto on Thursday, June 11, coinciding with the launch of their nationwide protest over alleged exam irregularities and demand for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Coaching reforms: Centre panel exploring possibility of conducting entrance exams at class 11 level

A Centre-appointed panel for suggesting reforms in entrance exams and reducing dependency on coaching centres is exploring the possibility of holding crucial entrance exams in class 11 or aligning the grade’s exams with their difficulty level, according to officials. The panel is analysing data to study if the difficulty level of entrance exams is in sync with the difficulty level of Class 12 curriculum, which is the basis of these exams. Last year, the Ministry of Education set up a nine-member panel to examine issues related to coaching, the emergence of ‘dummy schools’ and the effectiveness and fairness of entrance examinations. The panel, headed by Higher Education Secretary Vineet Joshi, will suggest measures to reduce the dependency of students on coaching centres for transition to higher education. “In its recent meeting, the stakeholders suggested that if few of the entrances can be conducted at Class 11 level or at least the exams for this class be in the same MCQ format as that of the entrance exams. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has decided to release fresh dates for CA exams in light of the Lok Sabha elections, which are scheduled to take place from April 19 to June 1. The new exam dates will be announced today i.e. on 19 March. The ICAI CA exams are also scheduled to be held in the month of May. The 2024 Lok Sabha elections will commence from 19 April and will end on 1 June. The counting of votes will be done on 4 June. Previous dates for ICAI CA exams: As per the previous exam schedule, the intermediate group 1 exams were scheduled to take place on May 3, 5 and 7, while the group 2 exams were scheduled for May 9, 11 and 13. Punishment Won’t Do, The Rot Runs Deeper

The term ‘cheating’ is pejorative and seen as undesirable. Any punitive measure to curb it is, therefore, viewed positively. The perpetrators of the crime are the persons who cheat and those who support him. Those who do not cheat are essentially seen as being honest and worthy of receiving the reward via, say, an exam, and vice-versa. The Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Bill, 2024, mentions “leakage of question paper or answer key”, “directly or indirectly assisting the candidate in any manner unauthorisedly in the public examination” and “tampering with the computer network or a computer resource or a computer system” as punishable offences done by a person, a group of persons or institution. This applies to school exams, college entrance tests, or competitive exams for government jobs.
