Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut PC Review: A Cut Above the Rest

Just around the time expansive open-world games had decidedly started showing signs of fatigue, Ghost of Tsushima arrived like a summer breeze. Sucker Punch’s Japan-set action-adventure game didn’t reinvent the wheel by any means, but it reshaped player interaction with familiar open-world tropes in inventive ways to deliver a memorable samurai story. Ghost of Tsushima and its resounding success on PlayStation consoles showed that the open-world playbook — largely written by Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry series of games — had gotten so stale that small but clever new ideas were enough to engender a meaningful experience. Through its pared back quest design, its diegetic approach to map markers, and its evocative visuals and music, Ghost of Tsushima set the bar for what a modern open-world action-adventure title should be. Now, the game arrives on PC in a package that amplifies what it already did well on PS4 and PS5. Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut, first released on PlayStation consoles in 2021 and now available on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, comes …

Ghost of Tsushima PC Pro-Orders Getting Refunded on Steam, Epic Games Store Over PSN Requirement: Report

Steam and other digital games storefronts are reportedly cancelling pre-orders for the PC port of Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut and refunding players in countries where PlayStation Network is not officially available. The game comes with PSN support on PC and will give players the option to use a new PlayStation overlay that essentially brings the PS5 interface to PC, along with support for Trophies and more. Ghost of Tsushima has reportedly been delisted from storefronts in over 170 non-PSN countries. The development follows the debacle where Sony made PSN account linking mandatory for Helldivers 2 players on Steam earlier this month. The PlayStation parent walked back the decision after widespread backlash from PC players. Ghost of Tsushima, which is set to release May 16 on PC, will only require Steam players to link their PSN account for its Legends online multiplayer mode, developer Sucker Punch has confirmed. The single-player campaign can be played without signing up and linking a PSN account. PC digital storefronts like Steam, Epic Games Store and Green Man Gaming, however, …

Apple Changes Decision, to Allow Epic Games Store in iPhones, iPads in EU

Under pressure from European regulators, Apple took a step back in its feud with Epic Games on Friday, clearing the way for Epic to put its own game store on iPhones and iPads in Europe. Earlier this week, Apple had taken steps to block Epic from starting up a store and bringing back the popular game Fortnite, which Apple removed from its App Store in 2020 after Epic broke the iPhone maker’s in-app payment rules in protest. Apple’s decision to open its door to Epic follows the European Union’s Thursday deadline for Big Tech companies to comply with the Digital Markets Act (DMA), a set of rules that bans Apple and Google from controlling which apps are distributed on devices with the iOS and Android operating systems. Thierry Breton, the EU’s industry chief, said regulators had warned Apple about the iPhone maker’s move earlier this week to block Epic’s potential return. “I take note with satisfaction that following our contacts Apple decided to backtrack its decision on Epic exclusion. From Day 2, #DMA is already …

Apple Blocks Fortnite Maker Epic Games From Launching Its Own iOS Store in EU

Apple escalated its feud with Epic Games on Wednesday, blocking the Fortnite video-game maker from launching its own online marketplace on iPhones and iPads in Europe. The two companies have been in a legal battle since 2020, when the gaming firm alleged that Apple’s practice of charging up to 30 percent commissions on in-app payments on its iPhone Operating System (iOS) devices violated US antitrust rules. The latest challenge from Epic comes as Apple struggles with concerns about tepid demand for its iPhones in China, and its stock has tumbled 12 percent so far this year, underperforming its big tech peers in the US Its shares were largely unchanged on Wednesday. Attempts by regulators and competitors such as Epic to pave the way for rival marketplaces on Apple’s devices are a major threat to the Silicon Valley heavyweight’s profits and control of its own ecosystem. European lawmakers are forcing Apple to allow those third-party marketplaces with a law called the Digital Markets Act (DMA) that takes effect this week. Separately, Brussels antitrust regulators on Monday …

Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition PC System Requirements Confirmed Ahead of March 21 Launch

Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition is set to arrive on PC on March 21. Ahead of its launch, developer Nixxes Software has released a detailed list of PC system requirements for the game. The studio, tasked with porting the PlayStation exclusive to PC, has also detailed the customisation options that will be available at launch. Horizon Forbidden West is one of the best-looking games on PS5, but Nixxes has opted for an approach that would allow the visually demanding game to run “on a wide variety of PC hardware.” In a post on the PlayStation Blog Tuesday, Nixxes Software confirmed that Horizon Forbidden West on PC would include graphics presets ranging from very low to very high. “This allows gamers with the latest hardware to push their systems, while also providing a great experience on less powerful PCs,” the developer said. Nixxes also said that the wide-ranging graphical customisation options would allow the game to run on portable gaming devices. This means that Steam Deck, Asus ROG Ally and Lenovo Legion Go owners should not …

Hades II Announced at The Game Awards 2022, Starring the Princess of the Underworld

Hades is getting a bewitching sequel, developer Supergiant Games announced at The Game Awards 2022. With a high-octane trailer that introduces the underworld’s princess, this would mark the first-ever sequel from the award-winning developer of gems such as Bastion and Pyre. Hades 2 can now be wishlisted on Steam and Epic Games Store, and will launch in early access on PC — similar to the first instalment, as the developers collect live feedback to improve upon its mechanics. Further news on Hades II is expected next year. From both an artistic and gameplay stance, Hades 2 looks similar to its predecessor, boasting a tight, rogue-like dungeon-crawling experience, that builds upon Greek mythology, with an incredible cast of characters/ gods and lore that unlocks through repeated playthroughs. While Supergiant Games’ trailer for Hades II doesn’t explicitly mention the protagonist’s name, a blog post confirms this is Melinoë, the daughter of Persephone, queen of the underworld. According to legends, Zeus, the god of thunder had his way with the highness, resulting in the birth of a successor. …
