One match short of equalling record, former hockey captain Manpreet Singh dropped; ‘rested’, says coach Fulton | Hockey News

3 min readJan 29, 2026 04:12 PM IST Former captain Manpreet Singh was dropped from the 33-member national team core group for next month’s Hockey Pro League. Manpreet, who is a game short of becoming India’s most-capped player, is the most notable omission, along with goalkeeper Krishan Pathak. A senior Hockey India official said the team management is looking to assess young players ahead of a busy season that includes the World Cup in August followed by the Asian Games. Manpreet’s exclusion, though, raises eyebrows as he is the only senior outfield player to be left out. “It is the coach’s decision. He wanted to test new players and saw Pro League as an opportunity to do it. Manpreet will be back in the squad for the next national team assignment,” a Hockey India official said. The camp, to begin in Rourkela next week, is part of India’s preparations for the upcoming phase of the FIH Pro League, to be held at the Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium from February 10 to 15. The home …

Equalling Dutee Chand’s record wasn’t the target, breaking it was: Abinaya Rajarajan after matching national U-18 100m mark | Sport-others News

It’s been almost seven years since her first “competitive race,” but 18-year-old Abinaya Rajarajan remembers all the details as if it took place just moments ago. “I didn’t know anything about running. I ran barefoot in my school uniform skirt,” she said, just days after matching double Asian Games silver medallist and two-time Olympian Dutee Chand’s Under-18 100m record at the Youth Nationals in Bhubaneswar. Abinaya went all out in the heats on Sunday, clocking 11.62 seconds to match Dutee Chand’s decade-old junior national record. In the final, the Tamil Nadu sprinter won the gold but couldn’t improve on her earlier mark. Even though Abinaya was disappointed at not breaking Dutee’s record, the timings are very encouraging for a youngster who started running just to “skip maths classes.” “I was in Class 6, and there was a zonal meet coming up. I asked my teacher which was the shortest race, and was told it’s the 100m. So that’s how I got into sprints. The prospect of missing maths classes was the only reason I signed …

Suryakumar Yadav On Verge Of Equalling Virat Kohli’s Feat, Can Become 2nd Fastest Batter To…

Suryakumar Yadav in action for Indian cricket team© AFP Indian cricket team captain Suryakumar Yadav is on the verge of achieving a mammoth feat ahead of the second T20I encounter against Bangladesh in New Delhi on Wednesday. SKY will have a chance to equal star batter Virat Kohli‘s record of being the second-fastest batter in the world to score 2500 runs in the shortest format of the sport. While Kohli crossed the 2500-run mark in his 73rd T20I match, SKY has scored 2461 runs in 72 matches till now. Overall, Pakistan cricket team batter Babar Azam holds the record as he crossed the 2500-run mark in his 67th match. Earlier, SKY was very pleased with his men for “walking the talk” in terms of executing whatever was decided at the team meeting, following an emphatic seven-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the opening T20I on Sunday. The two bowling heroes — Arshdeep Singh and Varun Chakravarthy — set up the win by hunting down the ‘Tigers’ for 127 and then Sanju Samson (29), Suryakumar Yadav (29) and Hardik Pandya …

Ravichandran Ashwin’s Mega Tribute To Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant After Equalling MS Dhoni’s Feat

Home hero Ravichandran Ashwin on Thursday said he made a conscious effort to bat aggressively on the red soil pitch laid out for the first Test against Bangladesh. The ploy worked brilliantly as Ashwin got India out of a hole with a sublime hundred in front of his home crowd. “It’s an old Chennai surface with a bit of bounce and carry. The red soil pitch allows you to play a few shots if you are willing to just get in line and give it a bit of a tonk when there’s width,” Ashwin told the host broadcasters after the opening day’s proceedings. “Of course, I have always been wafting my bat around outside off-stump. Worked on a few things and on a surface like this with a bit of spice, if you’re going after the ball, might as well go after it really hard like Rishabh does.”  Rishabh Pant too batted well for his 39 off 52 balls before falling to a loose stroke. On a day India lost their top-four for …

Suryakumar Yadav’s Ultimate Praise For “Great” Rohit Sharma On Equalling His World Record

Indian cricket team batter Suryakumar Yadav made history by equalling Rohit Sharma‘s sensational record of scoring four T20I centuries during the match against South Africa on Thursday. It was a brilliant knock from the current skipper as he guided his team to victory and after the match, he had an honest reaction to the massive achievement. He recognised the magnitude of what he has achieved and even called Rohit a ‘great of the game’. “It feels good to equal Rohit Sharma’s 4 centuries, he’s a great of the game. It’s a good achievement. Hoping to continue performing consistently. I’m very happy,” Suryakumar said in a video released by BCCI on social media. Suryakumar Yadav hit a dazzling century as India levelled their series against South Africa with a crushing 106-run win. Suryakumar made 100 in a total of 201 for seven after India were sent in to bat. South Africa crashed to 95 all out with left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav taking a career-best five for 17 on his 29th birthday. “We wanted to play a fearless …
