With a vision to create India’s first-ever representation at the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics, the Equestrian Federation of India (EFI) organised the first-ever FEI-backed Para Dressage Workshop at the Modi Equestrian Academy in Meerut on January 4 and 5. This was held ahead of the Para Dressage World Challenge 2025 scheduled for October, also being hosted in India for the first time. The two-day workshop included a visual presentation introducing participants to the discipline followed by a demonstration event showcasing the skills and collaboration essential to para dressage. Attendees were provided with an in-depth understanding of the discipline, covering its unique requirements, specialised equipment, and the characteristics of horses suited for para-equestrian events such as suitable experience, calm temperament, and exceptional trainability to adapt to riders’ unique needs. IT IS “neigh” impossible to know what horses themselves think on the matter but the Delhi High Court was recently tasked with ascertaining if horses ought to be categorised as “athletes” or “equipment”, in the sport of equestrian. The petitioner, Rajasthan Equestrian Association, wants voting rights for states, like every sport. They are locked in a long battle with the Equestrian Federation of India (EFI), which insists that the sport is “peculiar” and cannot have a pyramidal governance framework of district and state bodies, given the infrastructure is niche, and requirements specific to horses. The EFI says they are living beings, moody too, hence qualify as athletes. And the upkeep of stable and training infrastructure by the current electorate of rider clubs requires crores in investment, so anyone spending that amount deserves a vote. Neither side mercifully has demanded voting rights for equines. Delhi: The mess in the Equestrian Federation of India continues to grow more complex as the Delhi High Court appointed an ad-hoc administrative committee, led by its retired judge, to oversee affairs on Thursday. The decision followed allegations of “impropriety” in the federation’s functioning raised in a petition by the Rajasthan Equestrian Association. The court stated that the ad-hoc administrative committee (AAC) would be chaired by former high court judge Justice Najmi Waziri, with former Chief Election Commissioner S Y Quraishi serving as observer/member, and advocate Rohini Musa as a member. Focused on developing the next line of quality riders and picking the best India team for next year’s Asian Continental Championships, the Equestrian Federation of India (EFI) announced an extensive calendar of 41 competitions for the 2024-25 season that includes many firsts. This will be the first time that India will be hosting an FEI CSI two-star (2*), the Asian Equestrian Federation (AEF), sanctioned U-21 Regional Group III international competitions in Show Jumping and Dressage on borrowed horses along with two Para-Dressage National events apart from three selection trials each for Dressage, Jumping and Eventing respectively to pick the Indian team for the FEI Asian Continental Championships to be held in Pattaya, Thailand in December next year. Eventing National Championships to begin in New Delhi

Close to 200 riders will compete in National Equestrian Championship Eventing at the Army Polo and Riding Centre in New Delhi, starting March 21, the Equestrian Federation of India (EFI) announced on Thursday. The first three-day competition will begin on March 21 and the second and final will begin on March 28. The Eventing competition, also known as Horse Trial, comprises three disciplines Dressage, Cross Country, and Show Jumping. In three-day events, the Show Jumping competition unfolds on day three. “We will have around 36 teams and close to 200 riders competing over three days. The competition will be in the Pre-Novice, Novice, and CCN categories. We have an excellent jury, headed by Col. (retired) Dushyant Bali.
