Court refuses to cancel dowry case, says previous complaint omissions don’t erase new cruelty | Legal News

4 min readNew DelhiJun 29, 2026 12:00 PM IST The Jharkhand High Court has refused to set aside criminal proceedings in a dowry harassment case, holding that the complainant’s failure to disclose an earlier complaint in the FIR cannot invalidate proceedings when the FIR only pertains to subsequent acts of cruelty and a separate offence of molestation by a relative of the husband. Justice Anil Kumar Choudhary was dealing with a plea of the husband and his family members seeking to quash all the criminal proceedings against them in a case alleging dowry harassment and outraging of modesty. “In view of the fact that the FIR contains subsequent occurrences of perpetrating cruelty upon the informant as also the commission of the separate offence punishable under section 354 (assault/criminal force with intent to outrage woman’s modesty) of the IPC by a separate accused person; which were found to be true during the investigation by the police, the sole ground of the petitioners that the filing of earlier complaint case was not mentioned in the FIR, is …

The 1994 legend no missed penalty could erase

5 min readJun 2, 2026 09:54 PM IST The popstar knew before the pundits did. Madonna, sporting her own scrunched power-high ponytail and a No 15 Italy jersey, had already made her call on Roberto Baggio. On her Blonde Ambition Tour in Rome, just two days after the 1990 World Cup, she had spoken proper football: “That goal against Czechoslovakia was marvellous.” Football snobs scoffed when she added, “I didn’t know his name then, but that goal and his big green eyes conquered me.” By 1994, she had anointed him the “Cutest.” The rest of the world was catching up. The footballing flock called him the Divine Ponytail – Il Divin Codino – after he embraced Nichiren Buddhism in 1985 following a career-threatening knee injury in Campania so severe he was told he might not walk normally again. The faith he found in recovery was not incidental – it became the stillness you could see in him under pressure, the composure that looked almost unreasonable given the moments he was asked to produce it in. …

Cosmic Rays Could Erase Signs of Life on Mars, Study Reveals

A study published in Astrobiology on November 13 has revealed the challenges posed by cosmic radiation in preserving potential traces of life on Mars. Researchers simulated the effects of cosmic rays on lipids, crucial molecular structures found in cell membranes. The findings indicate that lipids deteriorate rapidly when exposed to radiation, especially in salt-rich conditions. This adds to concerns about the preservation of biosignatures in regions on Mars that were once considered the most likely to host life. As reported Anais Roussel, an astrobiologist at Georgetown University, highlighted the issue of salt-rich environments on Mars. Roussel stated to Space.com, that they go for salt-rich environments, but they could be one of the most damaging under radiation. These findings raise concerns about whether the surface of Mars, constantly exposed to cosmic radiation due to the absence of an atmospheric shield, can protect molecular evidence of ancient life. Salt and Radiation: A Double Threat Research indicated that lipids exposed to simulated cosmic rays deteriorated significantly within the equivalent of three million years, with up to half the …
