In a nine page preliminary reply sent to the chairman of Hockey India’s Ethics Committee, Justice (Retd) Raghvendra Kumar, Lakra denied all allegations made in complaints filed by former international Albela Rani Toppo, describing them as “false, baseless, malicious, motivated and defamatory.” “I deny each and every allegation, insinuation and imputation levelled against me in the said complaints, whether express or implied, as if the same were set out herein separately and traversed seriatim. The allegations are false, baseless, malicious, motivated, defamatory and are a complete distortion of facts,” she said in her reply, which is also copied to HI president and general secretary. Vijay Sethupathi’s Comments on Krithi Shetty Spark Discussion on Workplace Ethics and Boundaries

While promoting his film Maharaja, Vijay Sethupathi revealed why he refused to perform romantic scenes with co-actor Krithi Shetty. The reason was simple — a significant age gap since Shetty is almost 25 years younger than him. Speaking to Behindwoods TV in 2024, the actor said: “I declined the offer of being paired opposite Krithi in DSP movie. I played her father in Uppena, which the makers didn’t know about. There’s a scene in Uppena that Krithi was nervous about when we were shooting. I even asked her to think of me as her real father while we were shooting that. She is a little older than my son. I told them I couldn’t do it.” DISCLAIMER: This article is based on information from the public domain and/or the experts we spoke to. The conversation deserves attention not because it is about celebrity gossip, but because it touches on something much larger: the importance of boundaries when there are differences in age, experience, and power. Fire Tragedies Through the Lens of Ethics

Fire Tragedies Through the Lens of Ethics

(UPSC Ethics Simplified is a special series under UPSC Essentials by The Indian Express that examines current affairs and static concepts through the lens of ethics and governance. Today’s article asks: What do recurring fire tragedies tell us about public service ethics, institutional accountability, and the duty to safeguard citizens’ right to life?) Recent, recurring fire incidents have created an alarming situation across the country. While every tragedy draws attention to lapses in infrastructure and disaster management, the larger concern lies elsewhere. For UPSC aspirants, fire incidents should not be viewed only through the lens of disaster management. They offer an excellent opportunity to understand core concepts of GS Paper IV, including duty, accountability, integrity, justice, empathy and ethical leadership. Every major fire raises a fundamental question: What are the normative foundations of public service ethics? The normative foundations of public …

Algorithms of suspicion: Why AI surveillance systems need a ‘UPI moment’ for ethics

Algorithms of suspicion: Why AI surveillance systems need a ‘UPI moment’ for ethics

In India, people, society, politics, and economics operate under the utilitarian principle of “maximum benefits” for all. However, in recent times, surveillance technologies, techniques, and processes are disrupting democracy and the inclusive idea of Digital India. A few months ago, Delhi Police announced that they would implement a state-of-the-art Integrated Command, Control, Communication, and Computer Centre (C4I) across all regions of Delhi by June 2026 to control crime and identify “criminals” by scanning faces on the streets and flagging suspects through CCTV cameras. For this, the Delhi Police drew inspiration from an Israeli software (a surveillance van equipped with cameras both outside and inside, along with a full data and computer setup and police operators), which has been in use since 2018 in North and Northeast Delhi. Initially, it was used to match pictures of lost and found children. However, it has since been used on several occasions: During the Prime Minister’s rally at Ram Leela Maidan in 2019, in the North and Northeast Delhi riots of 2020 and 2022 (Jahangirpuri), and the Republic Day …

FIDE submits complaint to ethics and disciplinary commission against Vladimir Kramnik | Chess News

The International Chess Federation (FIDE) on Tuesday submitted a complaint to the FIDE Ethics & Disciplinary Commission (EDC) and named former World Champion Vladimir Kramnik as the respondent. “The referral follows concern in the chess community about repeated public allegations made by Kramnik against GM Daniel Naroditsky and GM David Navara, and comes after a review of the matter by the FIDE Management Board,” the chess body said in the statement. Naroditsky passed away last month at the age of 29 as the chess world mourned his demise. Kramnik, who had previously accused Naroditsky of cheating in online chess, raised his suspicion of Naroditsky’s sudden passing and posted a series of explosive tweets questioning the circumstances. The 50-year-old Russian GM hinted at potential substance abuse and deteriorating mental health. Kramnik had, without substantial proof, repeatedly accused the American player of cheating while playing online – an allegation that Naroditsky had firmly denied. Last December, Naroditsky had said on “Take Take Take” that cheating, according to him, is the worst crime a chess player can commit …
