Indian Coast Guard evacuates rescued Indian fishers from Vietnam-flagged merchant ship off TN’s Colachel

An Indian Coast Guard vessel, Anagh, rendezvoused with a Vietnam-flagged ship, MS Solis, off the Tamil Nadu coast early on Sunday (March 8, 2026) and evacuated nine Indian fishers rescued from the sea by the merchant vessel’s crew following a collision on Saturday (March 7, 2026).  The Coast Guard vessel docked at the Vizhinjam harbour in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Emergency responders rushed the rescued fishers to the Government Medical College for critical care.  According to police, at least two of the fishers had sustained serious injuries in the mid-sea collision.  According to the Kerala police, the fishing boat St Joseph had set out to sea from Shakthikulangara Harbour in Kollam late on Friday (March 6, 2026). The Patiala district administration on Wednesday evacuated the official residence of Aam Aadmi Party’s Sanaur MLA Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra at 9C Civil Lines amid high drama by family members, who resisted the move, officials said. The state government had cancelled the allotment of his official residence after a Patiala court declared Pathanmajra a proclaimed offender (PO) in December 2025, as he failed to join the investigation into an FIR registered against him on the charges of rape, cheating and criminal intimidation, despite repeated summons and non-bailable warrants and reportedly left the country. Teams of the district administration, police, health and other departments reached the MLA’s residence in the afternoon for the eviction, but Pathanmajra’s wife Simranpreet Kaur, his sister and other family members staying in the house objected to the official action. “My husband has raised his voice for the constituency, and they are punishing him like this. The game between the sides has been called off midway due to a blackout. The teams, along with the players, support staff, commentators, and production crew, were transported to New Delhi on May 9. The game between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals at Dharamsala being called-off around 9.35 pm Thursday, following a blackout and air raid alerts in neighbouring towns, including Pathankot just 90 km from the stadium. Sources said the decision to stop the Dharamsala game was taken by the hosts Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association following a phone call from a top cricket official. The Indian Army rescued 68 tourists including 38 women and children from Jammu and Kashmir’s Gulmarg which received heavy snowfall on Friday leading to the closure of the road to Tanmarg. Gulmarg is a popular skiing destination and tourists flock to the town during the season to enjoy the valley’s beauty and experience snowfall.  Chinar Warriors responded to a distress call from the civil administration to evacuate the tourists who were stranded due to heavy snowfall. India evacuated 75 Indian nationals from Syria two days after rebel forces led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham toppled Bashar al-Assad’s regime. The Ministry of External Affairs on Wednesday said that all Indian nationals have safely crossed over to Lebanon and will return by available commercial flights to India. The evacuation, coordinated by the embassies of India in Damascus and Beirut, was put into effect following an assessment of the security situation , the MEA said in a statement.  “The evacuees included 44 ‘zaireen’ from Jammu and Kashmir who were stranded at Saida Zainab. All Indian nationals have safely crossed over to Lebanon and will return by available commercial flights to India,” it said. More than 1.14 lakh people in West Bengal have been evacuated to safer shelters with `severe` Cyclone Dana approaching the neighbouring Odisha coast, officials reported on Wednesday, October 23.  The cyclone, which is expected to bring wind speeds of up to 120 km/h (75 mph), is likely to make landfall between Bhitarkanika National Park and Dhamra Port in Odisha by Friday morning, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated.  In anticipation of the storm, flight operations at Kolkata airport will be suspended for 15 hours, from 6 pm on Thursday until 9 am on Friday. Apart from this, the Eastern Railway has cancelled 190 local trains in its Sealdah division from 8 pm on Thursday to 10 am on Friday to ensure passenger safety, news agency PTI reported.
