The Delhi High Court has held that candidates from Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) cannot claim parity in upper age limit and number of attempts with those from Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Other Backward Categories (OBC) in central government recruitments, including Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exams, observing that the disadvantages faced by socially backward classes are distinct from those arising from economic deprivation. A bench of Justices Anil Kshetarpal and Amit Mahajan delivered the judgment while dismissing petitions filed by EWS candidates seeking similar relaxations as available to SC, ST, and OBC categories. MUMBAI: The price of 6,248 flats in Thane, built as part of a government scheme for lower income groups, has been reduced between ₹1.01 lakh and ₹1.43 lakh, by the Konkan board of the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA). The reduction was due to a lack of response from buyers when the flats were launched in 2024. MHADA reduces sale prices of 6,248 flats at two EWS schemes To provide housing to the economically weaker section (EWS) struggling to buy their own homes, the Maharashtra government is implementing the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in urban and rural areas through MHADA. The Konkan Housing and Area Development Board, a regional unit of MHADA, built the 6,248 flats at Khoni and Shirgaon in Kalyan and Badlapur in Thane district. New Delhi: AAP on Tuesday accused the BJP government here of halting the issuance of Economically Weaker Section (EWS) certificates, thereby affecting access to education and healthcare for eligible families. The BJP rejected the allegation, clarifying that Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has only called for the framing of proper guidelines to prevent the misuse of the facility. Delhi to begin online registration for EWS admissions in private schools on February 2

The online registration for entry-level classes in private schools of Delhi under the economically weaker section (EWS), disadvantaged groups and children with special needs categories will begin on February 2. In a circular dated January 3, the Delhi Directorate of Education (DoE) outlined the guidelines for the admission process for nursery, kindergarten (KG) and Class 1 under EWS/disadvantaged groups (DG) and children with special needs (CWSN) in the city’s private unaided recognised schools. The DoE stated that the online application process will commence on February 3 and the last date for submission of applications is February 19. The first round of the computerised draw of lots for selected students will be announced on March 3. According to the guidelines, the age limit for admission as of March 31 for students under the EWS and DG categories is between three and five years for nursery, four and six years for KG, and five and seven years for Class 1.
