Karan Johar calls out excessive PR in Bollywood: ‘Let work speak’

Karan Johar has called out Bollywood’s growing dependence on paid publicity, criticising the industry’s PR culture. In a recent interview, he said excessive marketing is overshadowing genuine talent. His reaction comes in response to a question about celebs like Janhvi Kapoor and Shanaya Kapoor opting for method dressing during promotions. Karan Johar condemns Bollywood PR overdrive In an interview with The Week, the filmmaker said, “I think Bollywood should stop doing PR. It will be much better. They should let their achievements speak for themselves because, unfortunately, all of the PR is now paid PR. If you want to say ‘You are looking gorgeous,’ you just have to pay. If you want to say that you are the best actor on planet Earth, you have to pay.” Disclaimer: We do not own any of the content, ideas, images, or text presented here. Vijay Varma on excessive social media hate after breakup with Tamannaah Bhatia, says ‘too many lies’ out there: ‘Sab kuch ulta hai’ | Bollywood News

4 min readKochiApr 14, 2026 12:37 PM IST Once Bollywood’s most favourite power couple, actors Vijay Varma and Tamannaah Bhatia’s breakup took the entertainment industry and its followers by shock, as many had been hopeful that they would stick together for a long time. However, without much noise or mudslinging, they parted ways early last year and have since been graceful enough not to drag the reasons for their split into the public eye. Although they have been civil to each other, it seems others haven’t been the same towards them. Vijay himself recently opened up about facing unnecessary hate on social media. Revealing that he decided to take a step back upon realising that the discussions about him centred on anything and everything but his work, the actor stated that this also helped him reconnect with his family and friends, whom he hadn’t been making time for over the past few years. Hikaru Nakamura rips into FIDE for excessive anti-cheating measures at Candidates

3 min readApr 2, 2026 02:57 PM IST World No. 2 and the highest-rated American Grandmaster, Hikaru Nakamura, has expressed his displeasure with FIDE, the world chess governing body, over what he calls excessive anti-cheating measures at the 2026 Candidates Tournament in Cyprus. Speaking on his YouTube channel alongside Norwegian GM Jon Ludvig Hammer and Luxembourg’s WIM Fiona Steil-Antoni, Nakamura vented his frustration, calling the entire process of excessive checking “complete nonsense.” “My general view about the whole topic of delay, cheating over-the-board, and all this stuff is that I frankly think it’s nonsense,” Nakamura said. “Considering the amount of machines they have to scan the players in the room, it’s all complete nonsense. I really do.” The highest-rated player at the World Championship challenger event, taking place on the small Mediterranean island of Cyprus, Nakamura took a dig at FIDE by sarcastically asking if the players were Mossad agents in Iran. “It’s not that I have any problems with it. I just think that the fears some players have expressed are completely overblown. I’m …

Parties must avoid excessive freebies, focus on development, says ex-Minister Semmalai

AIADMK’s senior leader and former Education and Health Minister S. Semmalai on Saturday (March 21, 2026) called upon political parties to avoid rolling out a slew of freebies. Asked whether the spree of freebies, being announced by major political parties as part of their electoral assurances, would facilitate the development of Tamil Nadu, the 80-year-old former Minister replied emphatically: “Definitely not! This should be avoided. Leaders of political parties should realise this.” He added that his prescription was applicable to the Union government too. Pointing out that the outstanding debt of the State government would exceed the ₹10-lakh-crore mark by 2026-27 from about ₹5.19 lakh crore five years ago, Mr. Semmalai, who represented Salem in the Lok Sabha during 2009-14, contended that this would be double the figure the State had accrued in the last 50 years. “Loans have been taken even to meet the commitment of interest payment.” Criticising the DMK government for not increasing the capital expenditure substantially in the last five years, the former Minister said the present regime had “frittered away” …

In a recent conversation, the actor made it clear that she doesn’t want to be “visible 24×7,” pushing back against the idea that celebrities must constantly be in the public eye to stay relevant. But Sobhita, known for her performances in films and web shows, made it clear that she prefers to let her work speak for itself. “There’s a lot of emphasis on visibility, and I just want to do my job well,” she said, pointing to the growing pressure on actors to maintain a persistent digital presence.    Her stance resonates with many who feel overwhelmed by curated celebrity culture. Sobhita explained that while she values her craft and respects the business side of cinema, she doesn’t want her life to be dictated by constant public …

Sobhita Dhulipala (Photo: Instagram) Ask her how did it feel coming to the rooted stories of small Telugu films and Sobhita Dhulipala says, “When I signed the project, I didn’t think so deeply. I am deeply connected to Telugu cinema as an audience and as a consumer. But when I started performing, the experience here is so effortless and it is so smooth that you enjoy it. Since I played a podcaster, there’s a lot of crisp vocabulary used, so I felt very relieved that I’m glad I speak this language. It’s my mother tongue and delivering these kind of lines, it’s not easy if you don’t know the language, so I enjoyed it a lot.” Watch the entire chat with …

‘They are running a campaign against them’: England find support in former Australia coach amid excessive drinking accusations during Ashes | Cricket News

England have found support from somewhat unexpected quarters amid reports of players drinking excessively during their break in the popular beach side destination Noosa ahead of the third Ashes Test in Adelaide. Former Australia head coach and former batter Darren Lehmann said that he was there around the time that England were there and he saw that they were well-behaved and well-liked by the locals. “I was in Noosa and this bugs me. I am all for getting stuck into England. They haven’t played well enough, their preparation before the first game of the series (was not good) I get all that. But I was actually there. They were actually really well behaved. They mixed with the locals, had a good time,” said Lehmann on ABC Sport. “The reports of them stagged is just wrong. They were polite and a delight to the people of Noosa, played golf, played soccer with the locals all that sort of stuff. They were well liked there.” England cricket’s managing director Rob Key has said that the board will …

Ashes: England to probe reports of excessive drinking in Queensland | Cricket News

England cricket’s managing director Rob Key, who broke his silence on the Ashes defeat on Tuesday, has revealed they will investigate their players conduct during a four-day break between the second and third Test in Noosa. Key then went on to add that drinking heavily is ‘completely unacceptable’ for an international cricket team. After losing the second Test at Brisbane, England took a break before the start of the third Test in Adelaide, heading to Queensland’s coast to revive the atmosphere. While Key defended the break taken by the team, following reports of players being involved in heavy drinking, questions are being raised if the team prepared well for the third Test at Adelaide. According to a report in BBC, “some members of the team followed two days of drinking in Brisbane with four more in Noosa — six in total, as many days as there had been of Test cricket at this point in the tour.” England’s Jofra Archer, centre, is congratulated by teammates after taking five wickets during play on day two of …
