The Excise here arrested an alleged drug peddler with 1.058 kg of suspected cannabis from a residential area at Chakkaraparambu near Vyttila even as it claimed to have intensified its crackdown on what it called the “dead drop” trafficking method. West Bengal native Shah Rukh Khan was arrested by an Excise special squad led by Circle Inspector Ranjith Kumar while allegedly dropping a suspected cannabis parcel in a vacant plot near a residential association’s house number board on Tuesday (July 14, 2026), the agency said on Wednesday (July 15, 2026). According to the Excise, peddlers engaged in the ‘dead drop’ method leave narcotic substances at specific locations and send photographs of landmarks to their customers. Excise seizes 116.37 kg of suspected ganja; 4 held

Excise officials in Angamaly seized 116.37 kg of suspected ganja and arrested four persons allegedly involved in smuggling the contraband into Kerala from Odisha. The arrested were identified as Balbhadra Dharua, 30, Lakshman Patra, 39, Taraswer Patra, 36, and Pradeep Ghadei, 27. They were nabbed near Karukutty railway station while carrying 58 bundles of the contraband packed in 11 backpacks, said P.K. Satish, Excise Deputy Commissioner, Ernakulam. The Excise department had received confidential information that a large quantity of ganja would arrive for distribution in Angamaly and other parts of Ernakulam district. The carriers were promised a commission of ₹30,000 each. A probe is under way to trace the supply chain and identify the local carriers, Mr. Satish said. The call records of the accused are being verified to trace the drug network. Ganja is generally sold at around ₹500 for five grams in Ernakulam district, Excise sources said. The government of India has extended the central excise duty exemptions on fuel to petrol blended with 22 per cent, 25 per cent, 27 per cent and 30 per cent ethanol, according to an official notification.
