Two bidders are in contention to acquire the combined commercial rights of the ISL and Federation Cup, with one of them offering more than Rs 2100 crore for a 20-year period after the AIFF opened the bids on Friday, and the national federation is expected to get its new commercial partner by Sunday, when it meets for an executive committee meeting. Deepak Sharma, the executive committee member of the All India Football Federation (AIFF), who was arrested by Goa Police for allegedly assaulting women footballers of Khad FC, has been granted bail, on Monday. The arrest came following a complaint lodged by one of the players with Mapusa police. In a significant development, Goa police have apprehended All India Football Federation (AIFF) executive committee member Deepak Sharma following accusations of assault leveled against him by two women footballers from Khad FC, Himachal Pradesh. The arrest comes in the wake of a distressing incident during the ongoing Indian Women’s League (IWL) in Goa, where the two players accused Sharma of physical assault. The players reported the incident to the AIFF’s competitions committee, alleging that Sharma entered their hotel room and assaulted them after a minor disagreement. Highlighting a pattern of concerning behavior, the players claimed that Sharma had consistently displayed signs of intoxication during team travels, even consuming alcohol openly in their presence. This alarming conduct, coupled with the reported assault, instilled fear and apprehension among the players, prompting intervention from the Goa Football Association (GFA).
