“Exhuma” Director Jang Jae Hyun Plans a Korean Vampire Movie for His Next Project

Exhuma director Jang Jae Hyun plans to make a vampire movie for his next project.  On May 2, director Jang revealed his plans for his next movie project in an interview with the UK online publication Screen Daily.  He stated there are no plans for a sequel or spin-off of Exhuma. His words: “I have to continue to evolve”. “It’s important that I make something new. If I were to make a sequel, I’d certainly make a lot of money, but I wouldn’t evolve as a director.”  Director Jang is instead planning a unique vampire flick, promising it to be nothing less extraordinary than Exhuma. Screen Daily reports that he is also in the early stages of developing an original story for it. His source of inspiration for the K-vampire movie: Bram Stoker’s Dracula.  “I’m writing in my brain every day something very, very strange,” said the director. “I want to make a vampire movie in Korea, set [against the backdrop of] the Greek Russian Orthodox church. I will spend two years writing before preparing and shooting, so perhaps it will be ready in four years. …

“Exhuma” Retains Top Spot at Box-Office and Surpasses 11 Million Moviegoers

The K-movie Exhuma has set a new record.  Korean Film Council reports Exhuma attracted 42,959 moviegoers on April 3, bringing the total number of moviegoers to 11,084,685.  Released on February 22, Exhuma reached the 10 million mark in 32 days since its release and quickly surpassed the 11 million mark in just 40 days.  Exhuma begins with the story of a family living abroad, which experiences mysterious events that put the newborn of the family in grave danger. They seek help from the shaman duo Hwa Rim (Kim Go Eun) and Bong Gil (Lee Do Hyun), who discover that something sinister has attached itself to the family.  To get rid of the evil entity, the duo asks for help from the veteran geomancer Sang Deok (Choi Min Shik) and mortician Yeong Geun (Yoo Hae Jin). “Exhuma” Becomes 1st Korean Occult Horror Film To Surpass 10 Million Moviegoers

“Exhuma” continues to break its own records at the Korean box office! On March 24, the Korean Film Council announced that the star-studded film had officially surpassed 10 million moviegoers after remaining No. 1 at the box office for 31 days straight. Not only is “Exhuma” the first film of 2024 to reach the milestone, but it is also the first Korean occult horror film ever to hit the 10 million mark. Notably, “Exhuma” is only the 23rd Korean film in box office history to surpass 10 million moviegoers—and it achieved the feat in less than 32 days. Less than a month into its run, “Exhuma” is already the 25th most-watched Korean film of all time! On March 17, the Korean Film Council announced that as of the day before (March 16), “Exhuma” had officially reached a total of 9,012,758 moviegoers. Not only is “Exhuma” the first film of 2024 to hit the 9 million mark at the box office, but it is also the first Korean occult horror film ever to reach the milestone. Additionally, “Exhuma” has now overtaken the 2014 smash hit “The Pirates” to become the 25th most-watched Korean film in box office history. “Exhuma” was first released on February 22, meaning that it took just 24 days to surpass 9 million moviegoers—a record three days faster than that of “12.12: The Day,” which was Korea’s biggest box office hit of 2023. “Exhuma” continues to make waves at the Korean box office! “Exhuma” is an occult mystery film about two exorcists (played by Kim Go Eun and Lee Do Hyun), a mortician (Yoo Hae Jin), and a feng shui master (Choi Min Sik) who relocate mysterious graves in exchange for a hefty sum of money.
