Odisha Police have summoned former IAS officer V.K. Pandian for questioning in connection with the alleged disappearance of two inquiry commission reports related to the 2008 killing of Hindu leader Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati and the 2016 SUM Hospital fire in Bhubaneswar from the chief minister’s office, officials said on Wednesday. Supreme Court grants ex-IAS trainee Puja Khedkar interim protection from arrest | India News

The Supreme Court on Wednesday granted interim protection from arrest to former IAS trainee Puja Khedkar, accused of fraudulently clearing the civil services examination held by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Issuing a notice on her appeal challenging the Delhi High Court order denying her anticipatory bail, a bench of Justices B V Nagarathna and Satish Chandra Sharma directed that no coercive steps be taken against her until the next date of hearing. The notice is returnable by February 14. Justice Nagarathna told senior advocate Siddharth Luthra, who appeared for Khedkar, what the apprehension was when nothing had happened to her so far. Luthra responded that the high court had made some strong remarks and that it would complicate matters for her if the case goes to trial. When the bench asked what Khedkar was doing now, Luthra said she had lost her job and was pursuing legal remedies. Khedkar has been accused of cheating and wrongly availing of OBC and disability quota benefits in the civil services exam. She has denied all allegations. …

New Delhi: Former IAS Trainee officer Puja Khedkar, who made headlines last year over claims that she lied about disabilities, changed her surname and forged a backward class certificate to clear the civil services exam, has approached the Supreme Court against a Delhi High Court order denying her anticipatory bail.  In strong comments while turning down her petition in December, the High Court had said the charges against her, which include forgery and cheating, are a “classic example of fraud committed not only against an authority but also the nation at large”. The court said her intentions seemed to be to dupe authorities and that “her steps (were) part of a larger conspiracy”. Ms Khedkar, it observed, is “unfit for appointment”. “Conduct of the petitioner was purely driven with a motive to dupe the complainant UPSC, or the Union Public Service Commission, and all documents allegedly forged by her were done to reap benefits of schemes meant for (disadvantaged) groups of the society,” the bench said.  In her petition before the Supreme Court, Ms Khedkar …

TWO DAYS after the murder  of a 71-year-old woman – wife of a retired IAS officer –  at her residence in the Indra Nagar area, the Lucknow police on Tuesday arrested three persons, including two of the victim’s employees. Police said the accused killed the woman during a robbery. Police identified the arrested persons as Ravi Yadav (23), his brother Akhilesh (27) and their accomplice Ranjeet (27), all residents of Lucknow. Joint Commissioner of Police (Lucknow) Akash Kulhary said Ravi and Akhilesh had been working at the victim’s house as helpers for the past several years. Ranjeet is a labourer. Police said that Akhilesh suffered a gunshot injury on his right leg during an exchange of fire with the police and is stable after treatment.
