A damaged chemical tank in Southern California may have cracked — potentially lowering the risk of a cataclysmic explosion — though an evacuation order remains in effect for some 50,000 area residents with no timeline on when they can return, a fire official said Sunday. Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Wayhowe Huang said officials will be continuing to evaluate the tank Sunday after emergency crews spotted the potential crack overnight. As of Sunday morning, he said it does not appear that any of the highly volatile chemicals in the tank have leaked. “There’s still the danger of a possible explosion. We’re not taking that off the table,” Huang said. “We’re still operating as if that is the risk.” Firefighters have been spraying the outside of the tank with water hoses in an effort to cool the chemicals heating up inside and prevent an explosion. Norwegian police have issued an international search request for Rinson Jose, a 39-year-old Norwegian-Indian businessman, after he went missing during a work trip to the US last week. Jose is linked to the sale of pagers to Hezbollah, a Lebanese militant group, which exploded last week in Lebanon, killing 39 people and injuring thousands. Jose, co-founder of the Bulgarian company Norta Global Ltd, which was part of the pager supply chain, was last contacted on September 18. He had left for a work conference in Boston on September 17, but his Norwegian employer, DN Media Group, has been unable to reach him since. On September 25, the Oslo police district opened a missing person’s case and issued an international search request for Jose. Norwegian criminal police, Kripos, confirmed that the request was sent globally. A Kripos spokesperson explained that such situations typically involve issuing a global alert, known as a “yellow notice,” and working directly with foreign authorities when necessary. Thousands of people have reportedly been injured by exploding pagers across Lebanon and Syria. Lebanon’s health minister, Firass Abiad, said nine people, including a child, have been killed, and around 2,800 others have been injured, as reported by Lebanese state media agency NNA. Israel carried out its operation against Hezbollah on Tuesday by hiding explosive material within a new batch of Taiwanese-made pagers imported into Lebanon, according to American and other officials briefed on the operation. Reuters reports, based on information from a “senior Lebanese security source and another source,” that this spring, Hezbollah imported 5,000 pagers that were supposedly from Gold Apollo, a Taiwanese-based manufacturer. The source claims they were modified before shipment by Israel’s Mossad spy agency, adding a board with up to three grams of explosive material. A customer at a Dunkin’ Donuts outlet in Florida, US, has filed a negligence lawsuit against the coffee chain, claiming that he was injured by an exploding toilet at the eatery. According to USA Today, Paul Kerouac is seeking $50,000 (approximately Rs 41.55 lakh) in damages after he said that he suffered “severe and long-term injuries” following the explosion of the toilet.  In his lawsuit, Mr Kerouac alleged that he visited the men’s room at a Winter Park Dunkin’, outside of Orlando, in January last year, when the commode erupted and left him covered in debris, faeces and urine.
