Express Exclusive | Satluj director Honey Trehan: ‘Jaswant Singh Khalra being abducted again’ | Bollywood News

The Diljit Dosanjh-starrer, Satluj, has been mired in controversies — a long censorship battle, a silent OTT release, and an abrupt takedown. Based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, it released on Zee5 on July 3, but was blocked in India within 48 hours, and later taken down worldwide. The Indian Express spoke to the movie’s director, Honey Trehan, whose earlier works include the Netflix show Raat Akeli Hai. Edited excerpts: That was a decision taken by my producers and the platform, because every time we announced the release, we were pressured by the government and had to stall the release. So it was completely their call that let’s just release it without any promos. I got to know about the release a couple of days beforehand; the producers called and said Zee5 wanted to release ‘Punjab ’95’ under another title. I had no issues with that. I just told them there should be no cuts at all. They agreed. So I told them we also have the name ‘Satluj’ registered …

The BTC members are learnt to be upset at the terms fixed by the Public Works Department for retaining the club premises. | Photo Credit: MURALI KUMAR K Amid the process of shifting of the Bangalore Turf Club (BTC) from the city to Kunigal Stud Farm, about 60 km from here, Club members on Friday sought certain modifications to terms of relocation. Changes have been sought by the members on the extent of land to be retained by the BTC in Bengaluru, rent payable on the land and the tenure of lease. Resolutions in this regard were passed. In February 2026, the State Cabinet decided to allot 110 acres in the Kunigal Stud Farm, and set a two-year deadline from the date of handing over of the land to the Club to move out of Bengaluru. It also decided to provide four acres in the existing premises where the club house – a heritage structure – is located to the BTC. The BTC, however, is seeking about six acres of land on the current premises …

In the early hours of November 24, 1996, bulldozers — overseen by officers of the Calcutta Municipal Corporation, cadres of the ruling CPI(M), and police — moved through Calcutta’s arterial streets from the north to the south, reducing to rubble thousands of makeshift stalls. Defending the eviction drive, Chakraborty argued that reclaiming public spaces from encroachment was essential to make the city more orderly and attractive to investors and tourists in a new era of economic liberalisation. Three decades later, as a new BJP government in the state undertakes hawker eviction drives, this time with no mention of rehabilitation, the echoes of 1996 are difficult to ignore. Framed as a reclamation of public space to bring about civic order, then — as now — the question remains how a city built on …
