According to the official, over the last nine years of the Yogi government, there has been expansion of infrastructure such as expressways, airports, and logistics networks ensuring the availability of essential facilities for investors. Plug-and-play facilities for industries and deregulation reforms were also implemented. Since the formation of the government, Uttar Pradesh has received investment proposals worth more than Rs 50 lakh crore, the official said, adding the government removed minor criminal provisions across 13 Acts for making business operations simpler. The government’s policy has also focused on developing sector-specific industrial zones to promote investment. According to the ministry, the amended rules will come into force from February 15. The government amended national highway fee rules to lower toll charges for users of partially operational National Expressways, a move aimed at encouraging traffic to shift from congested highways to newly built expressway stretches. The change was announced by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) through an amendment to the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008. The government said the move is aimed at promoting the use of National Expressways, easing congestion on existing National Highways running parallel to them, improving logistics movement and reducing pollution caused by traffic bottlenecks on older routes. Uttar Pradesh: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday (March 2) directed officials to take comprehensive measures to reduce road accidents. He emphasised the need for building hospitals on both sides of expressways, similar to food plazas, to provide immediate medical aid to accident victims. The chief minister issued the directions during a meeting of the State Road Safety Council that was attended by ministers, senior bureaucrats, divisional commissioners, district magistrates, police commissioners, and superintendents of police. According to an official statement, CM Adityanath said in 2024, Uttar Pradesh recorded 46,052 road accidents, leading to 34,600 injuries and over 24,000 deaths. He termed the figures extremely tragic and stressed the need for multi-departmental coordination to reduce accidents. Ganga Expressway: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday chaired a special Cabinet meeting in Prayagraj wherein he gave approval to the much-awaited extension of the Ganga Expressway. This project aims to link two major expressways, the Purvanchal Expressway and the Bundelkhand Expressway, creating a high-speed network connecting all districts of Uttar Pradesh. Initially planned as a six-lane project, the expressway is now being considered for expansion to eight lanes. This extension will connect Prayagraj to Mirzapur, Bhadohi, Varanasi, Chandauli, and Ghazipur. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) is set to complete highway expressways by 2025, making it a key component of India’s highway infrastructure. Over the past decade, MoRTH has developed an impressive network of National Highways (NHs) that is 56,700 kilometers long and has greatly expanded the country’s road network. Now, the focus is shifting toward improving the quality of construction and maintenance to ensure safer and more efficient travel for road users. Expansion of national highway networks Since 2013-14, the length of national highways has increased from 91,000 km to 146,000 km, reflecting MoRTH’s commitment to increasing connectivity. However, there has been concern over the quality of the highways, including the Delhi-Jaipur section (NH-48) and the Amritsar-Jamnagar Economic Corridor.
