The Central Bureau of Investigation, in coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Union Home Ministry, facilitated the extradition. The agency alleged that Singh, alias Shera, was a mastermind in a major Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM) terror-financing case. He was brought to Delhi and taken into custody by the NIA. The accused had fled to Portugal in 2020.  Iqbal Singh A non-bailable arrest warrant was issued against him in October 2020, while an Interpol Red Notice was opened in June 2021. He was wanted by the Delhi Police for his alleged involvement in drug trafficking. The accused has been identified as Prabhdeep Singh. At the request of the Delhi Police, the CBI had an Interpol Red Notice published against him. “After the subject was geo-located and arrested by the Azerbaijan authorities, an extradition request was sent to them. Following due legal process, the subject was successfully extradited to India,” the agency said. A UK court on Wednesday rejected fugitive diamantaire Nirav Modi’s bid to reopen his extradition proceedings, upholding earlier rulings and accepting assurances by the Indian government that he would not be interrogated by investigating agencies if extradited. Nirav Modi. | Photo Credit: ANI The London High Court has rejected the petition of diamond merchant Nirav Modi to reopen proceedings against his extradition order, in connection with the Punjab National Bank (PNB) fraud case, according to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). “Nirav Modi’s petition to reopen proceedings against his extradition order by U.K. courts was rejected today by the High Court of Justice, King’s Bench Division, London,” said the agency. “The matter was strongly argued by the Crown Prosecution Service advocate, ably assisted by a dedicated CBI team, including investigating officers who travelled to London for the hearing. The reopening application had been filed on the basis of the Bhandari judgment,” it said.
