Sing Geetham movie review: At 94, Singeetam Srinivasa Rao delivers a musical fable | Movie-review News

Some films take years to make. Sing Geetham took nearly a lifetime. The idea lived in Singeetham Srinivasa Rao’s head for close to four decades before a producer finally said yes. This explains why the film feels the way it does: deeply personal, unique, stubbornly unconventional, and made with the kind of sincerity that cannot be manufactured. The man who once made a film without dialogues asks you to imagine a world where everyone sings, quite literally. Kuberapuram is a fictional village in Andhra Pradesh that feels like it exists slightly outside of real time. It sits on gold, and outside interests have noticed. A young man named Pratap (Ayaan) arrives expecting a business opportunity. What he finds instead is a community that is holding itself together with less and less left to hold. At the center of the village’s resistance is Gowri (Ahilya Bamroo), a young woman with an unshakeable attachment to the land and the life it sustains. A gold mining operation managed by Renu (Shalini Kondepudi) is slowly eating into both. Then, …

Hoppers movie review: Pixar’s latest is a frenzied fable that loses its way | Movie-review News

3 min readMar 6, 2026 02:33 PM IST Hoppers movie review: The hopper doth hop too much. This latest Pixar animation is a frenzied exploration of an idea that could have been told ever so simply, with not much humour or a catchy song or two to lift it. But what are humans for, than to complicate what animals know so simply: that co-existence is possible, that co-existence is essential, and that co-existence is elementary. We get to this rule of nature by a roundabout manner which starts, like always, with a girl who is lonely and a misfit (Mabel, voiced by Curda), who finds one friendly and understanding adult (her grandmother) to be herself. Mabel grows up loving animals and particularly the glade where she visited with her grandmother. But now she is 19, the grandmother is dead, and her town Beaverton needs a beltway through the jungle to cut distances and time. The development lobby is steered by Beaverton’s very charismatic (but also surprisingly accessible) Mayor, Jerry (Hamm). When Mabel takes Jerry on, …

Finnish horror fable Nightborn explores parents’ emotional hardships, motherhood taboos

By Linda Pasquini Finnish horror fable Nightborn explores parents’ emotional hardships, motherhood taboos BERLIN, – Finnish director Hanna Bergholm knew from very early on she wanted her horror film Nightborn to tell a story about difficult emotions that arise when you become a parent and to break taboos that still exist around motherhood. “I knew that I wanted to tell a story about difficult emotions that appear when you are a parent, mother, or a father, and how to face your emotions and yourself,” she said at the Berlin Film Festival, where the film original title Yön Lapsi is featured as part of the Competition section. This Nordic tale of mythological influences follows Saga and her British husband, Jon, played by Harry Potter star Rupert Grint, as they retreat to the seclusion of Finland’s forests and excitedly embark on their new journey as parents. Once the baby is born, however, their joy fades quickly as his appearance and behaviour raise suspicions in Saga that something is terribly wrong. “It was very important that it feels …

Mufasa The Lion King Hindi review: Shah Rukh Khan makes this Disney fable his own in Barry Jenkins’ layered origin story | Hollywood

Mufasa The Lion King Hindi movie review: It makes perfect poetic sense to cast Shah Rukh Khan as the voice of the titular character, the mighty father of Simba, in Barry Jenkins’ prequel to the 2019 blockbuster. He not only lends his signature thinking man’s vulnerability to a young Mufasa, but also steeps the Disney fable in flavours both deeply local and eerily personal. Mufasa’s origin story is that of Shah Rukh himself – a lost soul in search of his parents destined to rule a kingdom far far away. Mufasa The Lion King Hindi movie review: Shah Rukh Khan voices the titular character. (Also Read: Shah Rukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai groove to Deewangi Deewangi at AbRam, Aaradhya’s school function) King of his jungle In the cult 1994 animated Lion King, the late James Earl Jones lent unparalleled gravitas to Mufasa through his booming, textured voice. In fact, Mufasa: The Lion King pays tribute to that man and that voice right at the beginning. Given the beats of the origin story, if …
