Yash defends Ramayana’s international canvas and style: ‘We need to make it familiar to a Western audience’

As the promotions for Nitesh Tiwari’s epic Ramayana begin, producer Namit Malhotra and star Yash travelled to Las Vegas to present the film at the CinemaCon. At the annual cinema exhibition for theatre owners and the industry, they presented Ramayana Part One to the West. On the sidelines, the two explained the film’s vision and scale in various interviews. Yash as Ravana with his Pushpaka Vimanam in a still from Ramayana. Yash on Ravana in Ramayana Ramayana is the latest adaptation of Valmiki’s epic, one of the world’s oldest pieces of literature. It tells the story of Lord Rama, the incarnation of Lord Vishnu (played by Ranbir Kapoor), and his battle against the asura king Ravana (Yash) after the latter abducts his wife, Sita (Sai Pallavi). The epic is one of the most familiar stories in the Indian subcontinent and is revered by Hindus as a sacred text. Speaking to Reuters, Yash, who plays Ravana, explained how he has tried to bring nuance to the asura. “I have tried to internalise… the whole essence of …

Bhooth Bangla review: Akshay Kumar keeps the laughs coming in Priyadarshan horror-comedy that feels a tad too familiar

Bhooth Bangla review: Akshay Kumar keeps the laughs coming in Priyadarshan horror-comedy that feels a tad too familiar

Bhooth Bangla Director: Priyadarshan Cast: Akshay Kumar, Tabu, Wamiqa Gabbi, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Jisshu Sengupta, Mithila Palkar Rating: ★★★.5 I’ll admit it upfront, I’m a sucker for the comic gems that Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan have given us over the years. Just a night before Bhooth Bangla’s release, I happened to rewatch their cult Bhagam Bhaag (2006), a reminder of how effortlessly they once nailed comedy. So naturally, seeing them reunite for another horror comedy after Bhool Bhulaiyaa had me excited. What we get, though, is a reunion that feels a little… bittersweet. Bhooth Bangla review: Akshay Kumar returns to his vintage comedy style with Priyadarshan’s film. The story of Bhooth Bangla revolves around London-based Arjun (Akshay) and his sister (Mithila). She suddenly inherits a fortune and a palace, courtesy of their grandfather. Arjun travels to Mangalpur, India, to set up the palace for his sister’s upcoming wedding. But the lore goes that nobody in the village gets married, as Vadhusur comes and steals the brides. What happens next forms the rest of the …

All England Open draw: Lakshya Sen handed early Shi Yu Qi challenge yet again, PV Sindhu faces a familiar rival in first round | Badminton News

All England Open draw: Lakshya Sen handed early Shi Yu Qi challenge yet again, PV Sindhu faces a familiar rival in first round | Badminton News

4 min readUpdated: Feb 24, 2026 09:04 PM IST Just like the World Championships last year in Paris, Lakshya Sen has been drawn to face world No 1 Shi Yu Qi in the very first round at the All England Open in Birmingham next week. The Indian star, ranked 12 currently, has lost four of the matches played on the circuit against Shi since the first time they met at the Hangzhou Asian Games team event, where the Indian had incidentally won. Since then, Shi has had Lakshya’s number, winning four in a row. At an event where he has registered some of the biggest wins in his career including making the finals in 2022, world No 12 Lakshya will have to pull off another upset to navigate further. Elsewhere in women’s singles, double-Olympic medallist PV Sindhu faces a familiar rival in the round of 32 in Thailand’s southpaw Supanida Katethong. The Indian star has struggled in the past to deal with the high tempo badminton of left-handed Katethong, but they haven’t faced each other …

Couple Friendly movie review: Santosh Sobhan-Manasa Varanasi’s romance works despite familiar territory | Movie-review News

Couple Friendly movie review: Santosh Sobhan-Manasa Varanasi’s romance works despite familiar territory | Movie-review News

Valentine’s Day releases typically come with certain expectations, either go fully commercial with grand romantic gestures or stay safe with feel-good moments. Couple Friendly tries something a bit different, and while it doesn’t always succeed, there’s enough honesty here to make it worth your time. The film’s biggest strength is how real the characters feel. Shiva isn’t some confident hero who has it all figured out, he’s anxious about money, unsure about his career, and genuinely trying his best. Mithra isn’t waiting around to be rescued; she’s actively solving her own problems while dealing with a work situation that’s beyond her control. Santosh Sobhan plays Shiva with a quiet desperation that rings true. You’ve probably known someone like this, talented, hardworking, but stuck in that frustrating phase where nothing’s clicking yet. He captures that energy well, making you root for him even when he’s just trying to land one decent client. But Manasa Varanasi completely steals the show. Her Mithra is chatty, impulsive, practical, and full of life. She doesn’t just support the hero’s journey, …

Vadh 2 review: Solid performances, familiar twists in this sequel starring Sanjay Mishra, Neena Gupta

Vadh 2 review: Solid performances, familiar twists in this sequel starring Sanjay Mishra, Neena Gupta

Vadh 2Director: Jaspal Singh SandhuCast: Sanjay Mishra, Neena GuptaRating: ★★★ I watched Vadh (2022) as a refresher, just a couple of days before I watched it’s sequel. But as soon as Vadh 2 begins, you aren’t dealing with a continuity. New characters, new setting, but similar motive. And this is where things get interesting- but also predictable. Vadh 2, directed by Jaspal Singh Sandhu, features a cop and a prisoner forming an unlikely bond amidst prison intrigue. Jaspal Singh Sandhu returns as director for this thriller, which centres on a cop, Shambhunath Mishra (Sanjay Mishra), and a prisoner serving a life sentence, Manju (Neena Gupta). The two form an unlikely bond inside the jail, finding solace in each other, just as Manju is on the verge of being released. Also jailed is Keshav (Akshay Dogra), the brother of a local politician, who runs a reign of terror within the prison walls. When Keshav mysteriously goes missing, the film unfolds into a tense tale of power and buried secrets. As also the writer of Vadh 2, …

India Open Super 750: After breakthrough year, Ayush Shetty looks to take next big step, starting with familiar challenge against Lakshya Sen | Badminton News

India Open Super 750: After breakthrough year, Ayush Shetty looks to take next big step, starting with familiar challenge against Lakshya Sen | Badminton News

Ayush Shetty got cheeky when asked about playing in his debut India Open Super 750 tournament. “It’s my first time at the India Open. I have always wanted to play here. I will be looking for home support even though I’m playing home favourite Lakshya Sen,” Ayush said ahead of Tuesday’s much-looked-forward-to clash. Currently ranked 32 in men’s singles, Ayush had a breakthrough season last year winning the US Open Super 500 title, and defeating established names such as Chou Tien Chen, Loh Kean Yew and Kodai Naraoka in 2025. Most recently, he defeated local favourite Lee Zii Jia at the Malaysia Open Super 1000, something he can take inspiration from when playing Lakshya in the first round of the India Open at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium. Playing against top players Ayush has been on a consistent rise since his bronze medal at the 2023 Junior World Championships. But the transition from to the senior level hasn’t been easy. “You have to play so many good players and stay consistent but I’ve managed to …

Why khichdi became New Year’s comfort food: Dietician explains why it featured among the most ordered meal on food apps | Health and Wellness News

Why khichdi became New Year’s comfort food: Dietician explains why it featured among the most ordered meal on food apps | Health and Wellness News

Written by Simrat Kathuria On a night known for big meals, feasting, lavish alcohol and indulgence, there was still something quietly surprising that took place this New Year’s Eve: Khichdi was one among the most ordered comfort foods on food delivery apps like Zomato and Swiggy. Khichdi equals emotional safety. It is a very much a familiar spot, easy to get rid of by the body, and is very closely associated with care, that is, the type of food we take when we are sick, tired or just need some comforting. A year characterised by fatigue, digital overloading and mental exhaustion has unconsciously led people to prefer grounding and not stimulating foods. Today, comfort less comes from excess but rather from reassurance. In terms of nutrition, khichdi is almost perfectly balanced. Rice and lentils together give a complete protein profile, slowly releasing carbohydrates and essential micronutrients like iron, magnesium, and B vitamins. The mixing of ghee, cumin, ginger, turmeric and asafoetida not only facilitates the process of digestion but also makes it more so by …

The Housemaid movie review: Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried shine in familiar domestic thriller | Movie-review News

The Housemaid movie review: Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried shine in familiar domestic thriller | Movie-review News

The Housemaid movie review: Housemaids and house mistresses share a relationship that is testy at best. Put striking blonde Sweeney and striking blonde Seyfried in the two roles, and there are bound to be fireworks. This is, of course, what Feig is counting on, resting this stretched and mostly familiar story on the solid ground provided by the two actors, who play off each other with just the right amount of tension and chemistry. Thanks to the two, it’s clear from the start that nothing is as it appears in the stately mansion belonging to the even more stately named the Winchesters. Andrew Winchester (Sklenar) works in IT and the family home, from the tip of its tiny attic to its dungeon man cave, has been built to his “precise specifications”. That detail is one of the many throwaways by his wife Nina (Seyfried), as she introduces their house and household to wannabe-housemaid Millie (Sweeney). The latter drives away, believing she has made a wasted trip, for a woman as thorough as Nina was bound …

Goodbye June movie review: Kate Winslet’s directorial debut is well-acted but overly familiar

Goodbye June movie review: Kate Winslet’s directorial debut is well-acted but overly familiar

Cast: Helen Mirren, Timothy Spall, Johnny Flynn, Kate Winslet, Andrea Riseborough, Toni Collette, Stephen Merchant, Fisayo Akinade Director: Kate Winslet Rating: ★★★ Kate Winslet steps behind the camera for the first time with Goodbye June, a holiday-set family drama that arrives with prestige baked in. Written by her son Joe Anders, the film leans into the well-worn terrain of estranged relatives, unresolved wounds and a ticking clock in the form of terminal illness A still from the film Goodbye June The story centres on June (Helen Mirren), a sharp-tongued but affectionate matriarch diagnosed with terminal cancer just weeks before Christmas. Choosing to spend her final days in a private hospital room, June becomes the still point around which her fractured family spirals inward. Her children assemble reluctantly, carrying old resentments, quiet disappointments and lives that have drifted far from one another. As the days slip by, June gently — and sometimes strategically — nudges them toward reconciliation, determined to leave behind something resembling emotional closure before time runs out. The good Kate’s greatest asset as …

Framework’s franken-laptop is back with big chip upgrades and familiar frustrations

Framework’s franken-laptop is back with big chip upgrades and familiar frustrations

Framework did it again. It promised modular, upgradeable, and user-repairable laptops where other manufacturers dare not venture or have outright failed. And it’s delivered. The 2025 version of the Framework Laptop 16 comes with not only new AMD Ryzen AI CPU options, but also Wi-Fi 7, a more powerful USB-C charger, redesigned cooling, and a new webcam — all of which are also sold separately, so existing owners can upgrade. But the biggest bump by far is a more powerful user-replaceable graphics card. The modular, removable GPU is what separates the Laptop 16 from any other laptop on the market. When it announced the Laptop 16, Framework called upgradable graphics the “holy grail.” Even after the Laptop 16 launched, the company was at times cagey about whether it could deliver future upgrades. Now it has, in the form of an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070, offering a sizable improvement in graphics performance over the last-gen AMD Radeon card. The original Laptop 16 was hot, loud, and creaky, and frankly, it felt a bit unfinished — some …
