‘I have to watch it with my in-laws’: Kajol warned Kunal Kohli before shooting sensuous rain song with Aamir Khan in Fanaa | Bollywood News

4 min readMumbaiMar 19, 2026 06:21 AM IST Kunal Kohli had given up on casting Kajol in his 2006 romantic thriller Fanaa because she’d just become a mother to Nysa Devgan. But when he narrated the script to her, she surprised him by saying yes. The only minor hiccup came during the filming of “Dekho Na”, the sensuous rain song with Aamir Khan. In this edition of SCREEN Spotlight, ahead of the film’s 20th anniversary, the filmmaker recalled how he challenged the conventions of depicting a blind girl on screen, and the ensemble cast he rounded up for Fanaa — Tabu, Satish Shah, and that one-scene cameo by Lara Dutta. Since Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s critically acclaimed film Black released just a year prior, and starred Kajol’s cousin Rani Mukerji as a blind girl, what was your brief to her so that her visually challenged character comes out differently? We never gave her dark sunglasses. Because I wanted to play with her eyes. I wanted the hero and the audience to look into her eyes. I …

5 min readMumbaiMar 18, 2026 07:31 AM IST In a couple of months, Kunal Kohli’s 2006 romantic thriller Fanaa, starring Aamir Khan and Kajol, will turn 20. Kohli’s third directorial, it had a far more evolved political voice than his first two — Mujhse Dosti Karoge! (2002) and Hum Tum (2004), which were largely romantic comedies. In this edition of SCREEN Spotlight, Kunal looks back at Fanaa, the challenges of casting and pairing Aamir and Kajol, and breaking the blind girl stereotype with her character Zooni. Do you think a film like Fanaa can be made today? Hum Tum and Fanaa are very different, yet we still don’t make films like either of them. It’s just sad heroes and producers are shying away from subjects that are bold and different. Because in Fanaa, the hero isn’t a hero, he’s a villain. It’s the love story of a terrorist. And there’s no salvation. He gets shot dead by the woman he loves and the woman who loves him. Was Aamir apprehensive of playing a terrorist? He …

Kajol Shot Fanaa Song In Minus 27 Degrees Wearing Chiffon While Aamir Khan Wore…

– Aamir Khan and Kajol in Fanaa. (courtesy: YouTube) New Delhi: Kajol feels that “women and heroines all over the world” should be saluted for completing shots in extreme conditions for their films/projects. She has a valid reason to say this. While celebrating the 17th anniversary of her 2006 film Fanaa, Kajol revealed that she filmed the track Mere Haath Mein at -27 degrees Celsius in Poland. That’s not all. She had to wear just a “thin chiffon salwar kameez on a frozen lake, with the wind chill” making the condition worse. Her co-star Aamir Khan, on the other hand, “had bought himself a nice thick jacket from the local market just for the shoot.” But all their hardwork was in vain, as “the whole song was scrapped and reshot” on a set in Mumbai.   Kajol shared a clip comprising sequences from Fanaa with Mere Haath Mein playing in the background. She wrote: “One of my oh so many ‘comebacks’ (referring to reports of her comeback after maternity leave) but Zooni (her character’s name) will …
