Why Agent Vinod remains Sriram Raghavan’s most fascinating failure | Opinion-entertainment News

What’s not to love? Your mind would make you want to think of James Bond’s Dr. No, but somewhere along the way, you’re convinced that Sriram Raghavan is equally enthralled by Jeetendra’s 1967 spy actioner Farz. Similarly, your mind would make you want to think that Raghavan’s busy plot doesn’t have any time for serious song picturisation, but then, somewhere along the way, you see a mujra-in-the-villain’s-den thrown into the mix. The constant feeling that you get is that Agent Vinod is stranded between two traditions, making you strand yourself between the heart and the mind. But if you watch closely enough, and repeatedly, just like I have, in all these years, you would perhaps realise that Raghavan just wants to have some fun with the genre. Is that too much to ask for? Well, surely for …

Aadu 3 movie review: Jayasurya and Midhun Manuel Thomas’ snoozefest comes across as amateurish fan-fiction, despite a fascinating climax | Movie-review News

Aadu 3 Movie Review: Has Baahubali never done anything stupid in his life? Not just Baahubali; take any Indian epic film — historical or fictional — that revolves around monarchs, for that matter. All of them give the impression that these kings were devoid of any dorkiness. I mean, to err is human, right? Also, for how long can a person keep talking in measured lines/verses, and how on earth is it possible for one’s every action to be heroic? So, I guess it’s just that creators like SS Rajamouli chose to include in their movies only those moments when their kings did heroic things, right? They basically overlooked the rulers’ goofy and frivolous sides to align with the tone they envisioned. That means, those like King Pulikesi (Vadivelu) from Imsai Arasan 23-am Pulikecei (2006) could have also existed, couldn’t they? If Aadu (2015) taught us that even idiots might become gangsters, Aadu 3, the third instalment in the eponymous franchise, shows that even dimwits could have been kings, and that their lives obviously won’t …

Know The Fascinating History Behind The Name

Know The Fascinating History Behind The Name

While the change from Kerala to Keralam may look like a single letter added at the end, the story behind it stretches back to more than 2000 years. The origin of the name Keralam is traced through two major historical theories. The Chera dynasty theory, widely regarded as the most historically credible, suggests the region was originally known as Cheralam, meaning “land of the Cheras,” one of the three great ancient dynasties of South India. Over time, gradual phonetic changes are believed to have evolved Cheralam into Keralam. Historians point to compelling evidence from the 3rd century BCE, when Emperor Ashoka’s Rock Edict II mentions a southern ruler as “Keralaputra,” considered the earliest recorded reference to the name. What Does ‘Keralam’ Mean? The folk etymology theory proposes that the name is derived from kera (the Malayalam word for coconut tree) and alam (land), translating to “land of coconuts.” Although this explanation is widely popular, historians consider it a later folk interpretation rather than the true origin of the name. The Colonial Connection: “Kerala” is essentially a …

Movie Review: ‘Heretic’ is a fascinating mix of high discourse, gore and a shifty Hugh Grant | Hollywood

Movie Review: ‘Heretic’ is a fascinating mix of high discourse, gore and a shifty Hugh Grant | Hollywood

“Heretic” opens with an unusual table setter: Two young missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are discussing condoms and why some are labeled as large even though they’re all pretty much a standard size. “What else do we believe because of marketing?” one asks the other. Movie Review: ‘Heretic’ is a fascinating mix of high discourse, gore and a shifty Hugh Grant That line will echo through the movie, a stimulating discussion of religion that emerges from a horror movie wrapper. Despite a second-half slide and feeling unbalanced, this is the rare movie that combines lots of squirting blood and elevated discussion of the ancient Egyptian god Horus. Our two church members — played fiercely by Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East — are wandering around trying to covert souls when they knock on the door of a sweet-looking cottage. Its owner, Mr. Reed, offers a hearty “Good afternoon!” He welcomes them in, brings them drinks and promises a blueberry pie. He’s also interested in learning more about the church. So far, …
