Inside Mika Singh’s 100-acre Delhi farmhouse with helipad, gurudwara, studio, 200 staff and mustard fields

Choreographer-filmmaker Farah Khan recently took a tour of singer Mika Singh’s sprawling 100-acre farmhouse in Delhi, accompanied by her longtime cook Dilip. Farah was welcomed in style as Mika greeted her with a bouquet of flowers, while his large staff — including armed security personnel who accompanied the singer throughout the shoot — stood by. As she looked around at the massive estate, Farah couldn’t help but marvel at the scale of it all. Quipping about the grandeur, she joked, “Like Randhir Kapoor once said — ek hota hai ameer aur ek hota hai raees (There’s a difference between being rich and wealthy).” She then teased Mika, asking if Salman Khan had seen the property yet. When Mika replied that he hadn’t, Farah laughed and said, “He will forget Karjat after seeing this!” Salman Khan’s farmhouse in Karjat is a popular destination where the star is often seen spending time with his family and industry colleagues. From fields to first rank: The story of Rajubai Gujjar

From fields to first rank: The story of Rajubai Gujjar

India has among the lowest rates of female workforce participation in the world, with women comprising just 29 per cent of the labour force. This could be attributed to several factors: a rigid gendered division of labour that leaves women responsible for childcare, eldercare, cooking, cleaning, and other unpaid work; social norms that restrict their mobility and decision-making; and limited job creation overall, which often sidelines women first. The College of Agriculture was established in Pune in 1908. (HT FILE) Yet, agriculture is a major exception. This sector rests heavily on women’s labour. In 2023–24, nearly 64.4 per cent of female workers were engaged in agriculture, compared to 36.3 per cent of men, according to the Economic Survey of the Government of India for 2025-26. This “feminisation of Indian agriculture” is not a recent phenomenon. For centuries, women have toiled in the fields without the power to make decisions. Dismissed as lacking practical wisdom, they were confined by men to relentless labour, within the home and on the land. In the nineteenth century, however, a woman …

Water crisis threatens paddy fields in various panchayats in Thrissur; farmers warn of mass protests against KSEB

Water crisis threatens paddy fields in various panchayats in Thrissur; farmers warn of mass protests against KSEB

A paddy field in Aloor grama panchayat that is facing acute water shortage. Farmers in Velookkara, Aloor, Puthenchira and Mala grama panchayats of Thrissur district are facing a severe agricultural crisis as crucial irrigation water has failed to reach the paddy fields and adjoining farmlands. The shortage has put both rice cultivation and other crops under serious threat. The worst affected are cultivators in the Kannukettichira–Vazhikkilichira polder, where 35 acres of paddy cultivation initiated in December is now facing drought due to an acute water shortage. Farmers say they have received irrigation water for barely five days since the start of cultivation. The paddy fields and nearby farmlands depend on water from two check-dams—Vazhikkili chira and Venkulam chira. However, these waterbodies have dried up after the flow through the Kottanellur branch canal, which feeds them, was disrupted. Farmers allege that the crisis was triggered by the failure of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) to release water from its dams into the irrigation system. They point out that water from the Lower Sholayar and Peringalkuthu …

Mahayuti fields Muslim candidates to woo voters ahead of January 15 polls

Mahayuti fields Muslim candidates to woo voters ahead of January 15 polls

Ahead of the January 15 civic elections in Maharashtra’s Jalna city, the Mahayuti allies, the BJP, Shiv Sena and NCP, are making a concerted push to court Muslim voters by fielding candidates from the community, according to the news agency PTI.  Marking a shift from its earlier approach, the BJP has nominated four Muslim candidates in the city. Political observers link this change in strategy partly to the influence of former Congress MLA Kailash Gorantyal, who recently joined the BJP and has been actively working to consolidate Muslim support.  While the Mahayuti partners were initially expected to contest the elections jointly, the alliance fell apart at the eleventh hour following disagreements over seat-sharing. The Jalna Municipal Corporation comprises 65 electoral wards. As per PTI, Muslim voters account for nearly 20 to 25 per cent of the electorate in Jalna and wield decisive influence in wards 2, 4, 10 and 11.  Among the other Mahayuti partners, Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena has fielded seven Muslim candidates, while the NCP, headed by Ajit Pawar, has nominated 17 candidates …

‘Who’s going to bat at No.3?’: Anil Kumble slams India playing XI in Kolkata as team fields six left-handers for first time in history | Cricket News

India pulled off a surprise move on Friday morning at the Eden Gardens when captain Shubman Gill revealed the possibility of a left-field No.3 for the side against South Africa after Sai Sudharsan was dropped from the XI for the in-form Dhruv Jurel. With Jurel playing as a specialist bat alongside the return of Rishabh Pant, India also made the move to play all four of their spinners with all-rounder Washington Sundar listed at No. 3 in the team sheet. India spin legend Anil Kumble was left baffled with the team management’s move to fit in a string of all-rounders into the XI, with Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel also slotted down the order. FOLLOW LIVE: IND vs SA Day 1 Updates “Really surprised at the lineup because I certainly expected Sai Sudarshan to be playing in this Test match. Who’s going to bat at No.3? That will be the question. Washington Sundar has been slotted to bat at No.3 so India will be bowling first. 4 spinners and 2 fast bowlers,” said Kumble on …

Magnetic Fields Could Significantly Influence Oscillations in Merging Neutron Stars, Study Finds

Magnetic Fields Could Significantly Influence Oscillations in Merging Neutron Stars, Study Finds

Magnetic fields may significantly complicate how scientists interpret gravitational wave signals from neutron star mergers, a new study has revealed. These collisions, where two super-dense stellar remnants merge, have long offered astrophysicists a way to probe matter under extreme pressure. The results from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and the University of Valencia reveal that robust magnetic fields form more complex and lengthy patterns in gravitational waves, thereby making it harder to decipher the inner workings of neutron stars. Results could doom post-merger signal interpretation strategies and the equation of states of dense matter as scientists prepare to observe the next generation of gravitational wave observatories. Magnetic Fields Found to Distort Frequency Signals in Neutron Star Mergers As per the study published in Physical Review Letters, the researchers simulated general relativistic magnetohydrodynamics — how the strength and arrangement of magnetic fields affect the frequency signals from the remnants left behind after a merger. They went represent real-world conditions by applying two different equations of state (EoS) for neutron stars, different magnetic field configurations, and several mass combinations. According …

Agriculture Minister urges quick transfer of farm tech from labs to fields

Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan emphasised the need for faster transfer of farm technologies from laboratories to the fields to benefit farmers. File Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Saturday (March 22, 2025) emphasised the need for faster transfer of farm technologies from laboratories to the fields to benefit farmers. Addressing the Indian Agricultural Research Institute’s (IARI) 63rd convocation, Mr. Chouhan stressed the adoption of agricultural machinery, smart farming and advanced digital technologies to address global challenges. “Research will have to be further strengthened to make India a leader in the agricultural sector,” he said, noting that innovations are particularly necessary to increase income for the country’s numerous small and marginal farmers. India’s agricultural growth rate currently stands at 5%, which Mr. Chouhan attributed to the combined efforts of IARI and farmers, resulting in abundant food reserves, according to an official statement. The Minister stressed the need for sustainable agriculture, climate-resilient farming, and organic and natural farming practices. He urged students to address agricultural challenges through research, innovation, entrepreneurship and startups. Ministers of State for …
