Actor Pradeep Rawat died at the age of 74 on August 4 after a cancer relapse. The actor, notable for playing villainous roles, first became a household name when he played Ashwatthama in BR Chopra’s TV show Mahabharat. But it was his debut in an SS Rajamouli film in the early 2000s that changed his career trajectory. Pradeep Rawat debuted in Telugu with Sye and was last seen in Gaayapadda Simham. The hello as Bikshu Yadav After a career in Hindi cinema since the 1980s, Pradeep ventured into Telugu cinema with Rajamouli’s Nithiin and Genelia D’Souza-starrer Sye in 2004. As the menacing septum-ring-wearing villain who goes up against a bunch of college students, Bikshu Yadav remains ingrained in the minds of many as one of the best antagonists in Tollywood. The film was a springboard for Pradeep, who soon starred in massively popular Telugu films such as Prabhas’ Chhatrapati, Chiranjeevi’s Stalin, and Allu Arjun’s Desamuduru. And who can forget his role in the 2005 Tamil hit Ghajini with Suriya, which was also dubbed in Telugu. …

Pakistan managed a four-wicket victory and avoided a whitewash in the T20I series. The spin magic has set up Pakistan to restrict Sri Lanka to 113 runs in their 20-over innings. Despite a decent start from Imesha Dulani and Chamari Athapaththu, Sri Lanka lost their first wicket for 36 runs. With Imesha’s dismissal for 17 runs, Sanjana Kavindi joined Athapaththu as Sri Lanka scored 44 runs in the powerplay. 10 Indian boxers reach final

All the ten Indian boxers in the semi-finals took a step further at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, reaching the gold medal bout on Friday. Preeti Pawar started the run with her unanimous decision win in women’s 54kg in the first Indian bout of the day. Ankush Panghal, in men’s 80kg, joined her an hour later in the same way. In the second session of the day, Jaismine Lamboria (women’s 57kg), Arundhati Choudhary (women’s 70kg), and Jadumani Singh (men’s 55kg) all won their respective bout. In the final boxing session of the day, Sakshi Chaudhary (women’s 51kg) made quick work of Canada’s Amber-Jane Wall while Sachin Siwach (men’s 60kg), Lovlina Borgohain (women’s 75kg), and Narender Berwal (men’s +90kg) all followed suit. The biggest scare of the day was, however, reserved for Preeti Ghanghas in women’s 60kg. She won the first round against England’s Lucy Kings-Wheatly 4-1, before the opponent returned the favour. Standing in front of India’s 70kg entrant was the winner of the previous edition. Rosie Eccles walked out bearing the Welsh flag at the beginning of the Commonwealth Games. Having announced her retirement before the tournament, the Welsh flag bearer had plans to repeat her gold from Birmingham and walk off into the sunset. Evidently the Glasgow crowd that had come to watch the semi-final bouts wanted the same. Choudhary brushed aside their plans with a smile. The boxer from Kota, Rajasthan – who has been a part of the Indian team for a fair few tournaments now, defeated her opponent in one of the toughest bouts an Indian has had to face at the Commonwealth Games ‘Lite’.
