Pilots' body challenges AI171 crash findings, cites electrical failure theory

The Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP) has challenged the official explanation behind the crash of Air India Flight AI 171, claiming that fresh simulator tests suggest a major electrical failure and not deliberate action by the pilots that may have caused the disaster, as per IANS. Addressing a press conference, FIP President Captain C.S. Randhawa alleged that investigators overlooked critical technical evidence and excluded experienced aviation experts from key parts of the investigation. Official report blamed pilot actions The government’s interim report into the June 12, 2025 crash near Ahmedabad airport had concluded that the flight crew manually cut off fuel to the aircraft’s engines, leading to a loss of power shortly after take-off. According to the report, the aircraft’s ram air turbine (RAT) — an emergency backup power system — deployed four seconds after the fuel supply was cut. Simulator tests raise questions However, the pilots’ federation said it recently carried out simulator tests using the same weight, balance and weather conditions as the ill-fated flight. The penultimate day of the FIP Promotion India Padel Open saw the Spanish duos of Ainize Santamaria Landa – Aitana Solan Domenech and Pol Alsina – Edu Altimires Ros stamp their authority by making their way into the men’s and women’s doubles category at India’s first ever international Padel Tournament. Just a couple of years ago, Spaniards Pol Alsina and Edu Altimires Ros teamed up to participate in padel events around the globe, particularly on the Asian circuit. Their strong on-court partnership was evident during the men’s final of the FIP Promotion India Padel Open at Benner University in Noida, where they clinched the title by defeating Frenchmen Arthur Hugounenq and Thomas Seux with scores of 6-4, 7-5. “We are a couple, but only on the court,” Ros remarked after winning the doubles title at India’s first international padel event, which featured over two dozen international participants. For Japanese padel player Kotomi Ozawa, the phrase “delivering under pressure” holds a deeper significance. The 26-year-old, who is partnering finance expert Elisabeth Nogueras Lorenz, faced relatively little pressure during the women’s semifinals of the FIP Promotion India Padel Open held at Bennett University in Noida on Saturday. They easily defeated Indians Sharmada Balu and Prerana Prathap 6-1, 6-2. They will face Spaniards Ainize Santamaria Landa and Aitana Solan Domenech for the women’s title on Sunday.
