15 killed in Lucknow fire; UP govt promises strict action

Uttar Pradesh Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna on Tuesday said strict action would be taken against those responsible for the Lucknow fire tragedy that claimed the lives of at least 15 people, asserting that the state government would not spare anyone found guilty, irrespective of their position. Speaking to ANI, Khanna expressed condolences to the families of the victims and said Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had already issued directions for an inquiry into the incident. He said, “This is a deeply distressing incident. We stand with the bereaved families. A devastating fire broke out at the multi-storied Lemon Green Restaurant in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar on Wednesday morning, killing 21 people amongst whom 17 were foreign nationals according to Delhi Police. Officials said the victims include people from Liberia, Nigeria, Mozambique and Bangladesh, as per IANS reports. Rescue operation completed Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) (South Delhi) Jitender Kumar confirmed that the rescue and search operation was completed at 12:12 p.m, reported the news agency. He said, “A total of 47 people were rescued, of which 21 have died, and 26 are undergoing treatment,” reported the news agency. The SDM also confirmed that emergency teams worked through the morning to evacuate people trapped inside the building. A woman with her child in her arms jumped from the third floor of a building in south Delhi`s Malviya Nagar where a massive fire left at least 21 dead, eyewitnesses said. The fire broke out Wednesday morning at the Flourish Stay bed-and-breakfast hotel in the congested Hauz Rani locality, triggering panic among dozens of trapped occupants. As thick smoke engulfed the building and flames spread rapidly through the premises, several people were seen breaking window panes and calling for help. “A woman holding a young child jumped from the third floor after local residents spread mattresses on the ground below in an attempt to save those trapped inside,” an eyewitness said. Witnesses said the woman landed on one of the mattresses along with the child and may have sustained some injuries. Three members of a family, including a four-year-old girl, died of asphyxiation after a fire broke out at Pasha Colony in Neknampur, Narsingi, on Friday evening. The blaze is believed to have been caused by a short circuit in the electric meter box on the ground floor of the G+2 building, which also houses a convenience store. Officials from the Fire Department confirmed that the victims, identified as Sijira Khatoon, 4, Jameela Khatoon, 65, and Sahana Khatoon, 30, succumbed while undergoing treatment. District Fire Officer (DFO) of Ranga Reddy, Shaik Khaja Karimulla, stated that 12 residents were rescued from the building. He said that the survivors conducted a headcount and promptly alerted officials about the missing family members. Firefighters used a ladder to break into their first-floor flat, where they were found unconscious. A Shivshahi luxury bus caught fire near the Talegaon toll post on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway on Sunday. No casualties were reported in the incident. The Shivshahi bus of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) was taking passengers from Swargate depot in Pune city to Kalyan when the incident happened. There were 12 passengers in the bus. Around 8.15 am, the rear side of the bus caught fire. A person travelling in a private vehicle coming from behind saw the fire and informed the bus driver. The bus driver immediately stopped the bus and the passengers were evacuated. After receiving information, fire brigade teams of the IRB and Talegaon MIDC fire station reached the spot. “The fire was brought under control in a few minutes. However, the entire bus was damaged.
