SpaceX and Firefly Team Up to Launch Firefly Blue Ghost with 10 NASA Payloads

Firefly Aerospace’s inaugural lunar mission is prepared for takeoff, as the Blue Ghost lander is scheduled to launch on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket in mid-January. According to reports, the mission, called Ghost Riders in the Sky, will also carry Japan’s Resilience lander and marks a significant collaboration under NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) programme. As per reports, the Blue Ghost lander arrived at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center on December 16 for integration with the rocket, where preparations are ongoing to meet the six-day launch window. NASA Payloads to Advance Lunar Science Reports indicate that 10 NASA payloads will be included, aiming to enhance understanding of the moon’s surface and its interaction with Earth’s magnetic fields. Among the notable instruments is the Next Generation Lunar Retroreflector (NGLR), which will help measure the distance between Earth and the moon with precision. Other key payloads include the Regolith Adherence Characterisation (RAC), designed to study the effects of lunar dust, and the Lunar Environment Heliospheric X-ray Imager (LEXI), which will monitor solar wind activity. NASA’s Webb Telescope Reveals Firefly Sparkle, a Milky Way-Like Galaxy

NASA’s Webb Telescope Reveals Firefly Sparkle, a Milky Way-Like Galaxy

A galaxy nicknamed the Firefly Sparkle has been detected by NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope, marking a significant discovery. According to research published in Nature on December 11, this galaxy existed approximately 600 million years after the Big Bang and has a mass similar to the Milky Way at a comparable stage of development. The discovery highlights unique insights into the early universe, as previously identified galaxies from this era have been significantly larger. Reports indicate that the Firefly Sparkle galaxy is distinguished by its ten active star clusters. These clusters were analysed in detail by researchers, revealing staggered star formation rather than simultaneous activity. This galaxy appears as a long, stretched arc in images due to gravitational lensing caused by a massive foreground galaxy cluster. Chris Willott, principal investigator from the Herzberg Astronomy and Astrophysics Research Centre in Canada, noted that Webb’s data unveiled a variety of star clusters within the galaxy. Willott was quoted saying that each clump is undergoing a distinct phase of evolution. According to Nature, gravitational lensing significantly enhanced the …

Adobe Adds Firefly and AI Watermarking to Bug Bounty Program

Security researchers in Adobe’s bug bounty program can now pick up rewards for finding vulnerabilities in Adobe Firefly and Content Credentials. The bug hunt will be open to members of Adobe’s private bug bounty program starting May 1. Members of Adobe’s public bug bounty program will be eligible to work with Adobe Firefly and Content Credentials in the second half of 2024, and applications for the private program are open. Both bug bounties are hosted on the HackerOne platform, which is open to security researchers globally. Hackers can earn between $100 and $10,000, depending on the type and severity of the vulnerability. “Not only do we just simply fix the vulnerabilities that are reported to us, but we also leverage the bug bounty program and some of the signals and trends that we get out of it as a type of feedback loop to our internal security teams,” said Adobe Product Incident Response Team Manager Daniel Ventura in an interview with TechRepublic. “So that we can all learn together and we can make our capabilities …

Adobe’s new Firefly model makes it easier to use Photoshop’s AI tools

Adobe is adding some new generative AI tools to its Photoshop creative software that aim to give users additional ways to control the designs they generate. Powered by Adobe’s new Firefly Image 3 foundation model, these new tools are available today via the Photoshop beta desktop app, and will be generally available “later this year” according to Adobe’s Press release. The most notable tool is Reference Image, which uses user-uploaded images to inspire the output generated by Adobe’s AI, matching similar elements in style and color. For example, instead of repeatedly tweaking a prompt description like “a blue vintage truck with flower decals,” users can instead provide a reference image that Photoshop will use as a guide. “Prompting is a pain in the butt,” Ely Greenfield, chief technology officer for Digital Media at Adobe told The Verge. “Why spend an hour trying to craft a three-paragraph prompt if you have an image that you’ve created that’s exactly the thing you want to reference? The saying ‘a picture is worth a thousand words’ applies here.” The …
