3 min readUpdated: Feb 25, 2026 05:17 PM IST Things turned heated in the second day of Ranji Trophy final on Wednesday when Jammu and Kashmir captain Paras Dogra headbutted a Karnataka player. After slamming a boundary off Prasidh Krishna in the 101st over, Dogra appeared to have some sort of verbal exchange with Karnataka’s KV Aneesh, who was a sub fielder. Things escalated when Dogra squared up to him and headbutted Aneesh’s helmet with his own which led to Mayank Agarwal stepping in to calm matters. After that, Karnataka skipper Devdutt Padikkal was also seen talking to the umpires about the incident. But after that matters cooled down with J&K posting a massive 527/6 at stumps at the end of Day 2. Sahil Lotra (57) and Abid Mushtaq (20) were in the middle after Dogra departed for 70 while Day 1 centurion Shubham Pundir scored 121. Abdul Samad also departed after 61 while wicketkeeper Kanhaiya Wadhawan added 70. Resuming on 284/2, J&K batters capitalised on a good surface with Kanhaiya Wadhawan and skipper Paras …

Abundance of caution: How flight hit by solar flare sparked rush for Airbus fix

Abundance of caution: How flight hit by solar flare sparked rush for Airbus fix

Airlines across the world cancelled hundreds of flights and scrambled to upgrade software on more than 6,000 aircraft over the weekend, though the impact was far from significant in India. The scramble was triggered by a rare safety directive following evidence that intense solar radiation could corrupt flight control systems on some Airbus planes, including the ubiquitous A320. The scramble was triggered by a rare safety directive following evidence that intense solar radiation could corrupt flight control systems on some Airbus planes, including the ubiquitous A320. (AFP) The urgent fix was issued by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency late Friday and came after a recent incident involving a JetBlue jetliner. The warning stated that the flaw – which can mostly be fixed with a software update but can require some hardware changes – can potentially lead to uncommanded aircraft movement that could exceed structural limits in the worst-case scenario. The directive affects more than half of all A320 family aircraft in service globally — the most-delivered commercial airliner in history. “This condition, if not …

India’s U-16 boys’ tennis team ended their Asia-Oceania Junior Davis Cup campaign on a high by defeating Pakistan 2-0 in the playoff for 11th place on Saturday in Shymkent, Kazakhstan. The fixture saw Indian youngsters Prakaash Sarran and Tavish Pahwa deliver clutch performances in tense super tie-breaks to seal the win. In the opening singles match, Prakaash Sarran displayed composure after dropping the first set in a tie-break, eventually overcoming Abu Bakar Talha 6-7(2), 6-3, [10-4]. Tavish Pahwa followed suit in an equally dramatic contest, rallying from a set down to edge out Mikaeel Ali Baig 4-6, 6-2, [12-10]. A video shared by Indian Tennis Daily captured a tense post-match exchange at the net where the Pakistani player misses a handshake swing extended by the Indian. When the latter holds his ground, the visibly agitated Pakistan teen returns to complete the handshake formality. “I’m not mad at you,” he is heard yelling at the Indian. The footage drew the ire of netizens who deemed the Pakistan player as having disrespected his opponent. What the video …

Rohit Sharma ‘Impact Sub’ Debate: Tempers Flare As Rayudu, Bangar Clash During Debate

Rohit Sharma‘s usage as an ‘Impact Substitute’ by the Mumbai Indians since the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season has divided opinions. Rohit, at the age of 37, is being used rather cautiously by the franchise, with the management deciding against putting him in the field while MI are fielding. With Hardik Pandya leading the side, Suryakumar Yadav is being used as his deputy, helping him make decision on the field. With Jasprit Bumrah also now a part of the unit, Hardik has some reliable ‘leaders’ to consult. In the Mumbai Indians’ match against Lucknow Super Giants, Rohit was seen walking onto the field during a drinks break and suggesting a tactical tweak to Hardik. The tweak did pay off in a brilliant manner, making many wonder if the team would benefit more with Rohit on the field for the entire 20 overs it bowls. As the subject was brought up during a panel discussion on ESPNCricinfo, former India cricketers Sanjay Bangar and Ambati Rayudu went at loggerheads while debating …

X-Class Solar Flare From Emerging Sunspot Causes Radio Blackouts

X-Class Solar Flare From Emerging Sunspot Causes Radio Blackouts

A powerful X-class solar flare was unleashed by an emerging sunspot region leading to radio blackouts over large parts of North and South America. The flare was classified as X1.1 and was reported to have erupted from sunspot region AR4046. This unexpected solar event was recorded on March 28. The flare impacted shortwave radio signals across the sunlit areas at the time of eruption, which disrupted communication in several regions. Solar Flare Triggered By Sunspot AR4046 Reportedly, according to the Space Weather Prediction Center under the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the solar flare originated from sunspot region AR4046. It was reported that the flare was accompanied by a filament eruption and a coronal mass ejection. A coronal mass ejection refers to an expulsion of plasma and magnetic field from the sun’s corona. Reports have stated that this specific ejection is not expected to directly affect Earth because of the sunspot’s location on the eastern limb of the sun during the flare. Aditya-L1’s SUIT Telescope Captures First-Ever Solar Flare Kernel, Revealing Unseen Solar Activity

India’s space-based solar observatory, Aditya-L1, has recorded a never-before-seen solar flare phenomenon, marking a major step in solar research. The Solar Ultra-violet Imaging Telescope (SUIT) onboard the spacecraft captured an image of a solar flare ‘kernel’ in the lower solar atmosphere. The observation was made in the Near Ultra-violet (NUV) spectrum, revealing crucial insights into solar activity and its potential effects on Earth. The mission, launched by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on September 2, 2023, continues to provide significant scientific data. Findings from the Study According to research published in The Astrophysical Journal Letters, the SUIT instrument observed an X6.3-class solar flare on February 22, 2024. The flare’s intensity, classified among the most powerful solar eruptions, was studied in the NUV wavelength range (200-400 nm) for the first time in such detail. The recorded data suggests that energy from the flare spreads through different atmospheric layers, reinforcing theories about solar dynamics while offering new insights into plasma behaviour. How Aditya-L1 Observes Solar Flares Aditya-L1’s position at the first Earth-Sun Lagrange Point (L1), located …

X-Class Solar Flare From Sunspot 3912 Causes Radio Blackouts in Southern Africa

A massive X-class solar flare, the strongest classification of its kind, erupted from sunspot region 3912 at 4:06 a.m. EST on December 8, as per reports from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The solar event, accompanied by a coronal mass ejection (CME), caused radio blackouts in southern Africa, where the region was exposed to the Sun at the time. Experts suggest the CME may graze Earth, resulting in minor geomagnetic disturbances. Radio Blackouts Observed Across Southern Africa The intense flare ionised Earth’s upper atmosphere, impacting high-frequency radio communications. According to NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center, the ionisation led to increased atmospheric density, absorbing radio signals and weakening long-distance communication. Southern Africa experienced notable disruptions, as it was under direct sunlight during the flare’s peak. Expert Insight on Solar Impact Space Weather Physicist Dr Tamitha Skov stated on social media platform X that Earth is likely to experience limited effects from the CME. She explained in a statement that the solar storm launched will graze Earth to the west. Fast solar wind streams might …
