Assam flood toll rises to 97; over 1.68 lakh affected as Sivasagar rail link resumes
The flood situation in Assam continued to remain critical on Friday, with two more people losing their lives, taking this year’s flood death toll to 97. Although relief operations are underway across the state, more than 1.68 lakh people in 15 districts continue to face the impact of the deluge, with thousands still displaced and large stretches of agricultural land remaining submerged. The latest fatalities were reported from Golaghat and Udalguri districts, according to officials. Golaghat, Sivasagar and Jorhat remain among the worst-hit districts, while floodwaters continue to affect Kamrup Metropolitan, Kamrup, Nagaon, Darrang, Sonitpur, Hojai, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Charaideo, Karbi Anglong and Dhemaji.
