Central Govt allocates Rs 600 crore to Gujarat for flood relief efforts | Ahmedabad News

The Centre has approved the release of a Rs 600-crore flood relief fund for Gujarat. This is part of Rs 675-crore funds approved for the flood-affected states of Gujarat, Manipur and Tripura. An announcement in this regard was made late on Monday in a release from the Press Information Bureau. “Central Government has approved the release of Rs 600 crore to Gujarat, Rs 50 crore to Manipur and Rs 25 crore to Tripura as Central share from State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and an advance from National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF). These states have been affected due to extremely heavy rainfall, floods and landslides during the south-west monsoon this year,” the release read. In August, Gujarat witnessed heavy rainfall and Vadodara city and district, among other places, faced heavy flooding. Image Source : PTI A flooded area after heavy rainfall in Vadodara Gujarat floods: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has constituted an inter-ministerial central team (IMCT) to assess damages caused by rainfall and floods in Gujarat. The state was hit by heavy to extremely heavy rainfall between August 25 and 30 caused by a deep depression formed over Rajasthan and Gujarat. The team, led by the Executive Director of the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), will shortly visit the flood-affected districts of the state. At least 25 people have died in rain-related incidents across the state since August 25. MHA in touch with  senior officers of affected states Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan were also affected by heavy to very heavy rainfall. Multiple spells of heavy rains, cloudbursts and landslides have caused extensive damage in Himachal Pradesh this year. The MHA is in touch with senior officers of these states, and will depute IMCT there as well, if the severe damages are reported by them, the statement said.
