Shah asks Delhi, Haryana, UP to ensure ecological flow in Yamuna

New Delhi: Union home minister Amit Shah on Monday asked Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh to collectively ensure a standard ecological flow in the Yamuna river, which is currently at a low level and affecting the water supply in parts of Delhi. Over the last two weeks, Delhi has faced a water supply crisis due to a lack of raw water for the treatment plants fed by the river. (HT Archive) Environmental flow, or e-flow, refers to the minimum flow of water required in a river to sustain its ecological health. Chairing a review meeting on Yamuna revitalisation in the national capital, Shah urged the governments of Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, along with all concerned ministries, to work towards cleaning the Yamuna not in a fragmented manner, but through an integrated action plan driven by a spirit of teamwork. Shah also announced that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) would be signed between the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) to prevent waste from Delhi’s dairies from entering the …

Ensure free flow of Cauvery water till tail areas, Palaniswami urges T.N. government

AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami. AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Friday urged the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) regime to ensure water from the Cauvery, to be released during the Kuruvai cultivation season, reached the tail areas of the river system. In a statement, he contended that even when the election campaign was on for the Assembly elections, C and D channels (secondary watercourses branching off from the primary “A” and “B” of the Cauvery system) were desilted “in haste”. This would impair agricultural activity, in view of the scheduled date of opening of the Mettur dam being June 12. Besides, the removal of silt had not been carried out properly in respect of drains. A permanent solution had to be found to tackle the sprouting of water hyacinth at the junctions of the Coleroon, Korayaru, and Vennar, and their tributaries, Mr. Palaniswami added. US Ally attacked: Iran-linked groups’ direct message for Trump after America cuts off cash flow?

Published on Apr 25, 2026 01:27 pm IST An attack on a U.S. ally, carried out by Iran‑linked groups, is being read as a direct message to Washington – and personally to Donald Trump – after America moved to choke off Tehran’s cash flows and oil revenues. In this video, we break down what happened on the ground, why this particular ally was hit, and how the strike fits into Iran’s wider strategy of using proxies to push back without triggering a full‑scale direct war. We’ll look at whether this was retaliation for U.S. sanctions, oil seizures, or financial pressure, and how it might reshape American security guarantees across the region.   Home / Videos / US Ally attacked: Iran-linked groups’ direct message for Trump after America cuts off cash flow? Centre ensuring steady flow of cooking gas during turbulent times: Nirmala Sitharaman

Replying to a debate in Rajya Sabha on the Appropriation Bill, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Tuesday that the Government is ensuring steady availability of cooking gas even amid turbulent times. She said domestic production of LPG is also being stepped up to address any situation. The Minister maintained that country has enough fertiliser stocks for Kharif crops and global bidding to procure nutrients for the next Rabi season will start soon. “The West Asia crisis has come up with a new challenge, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s stress on self-reliance and increasing production to meet India’s basic demands has helped the country,” she said. “Overwhelmingly, 90% of the 65% LPG imports come through the Strait of Hormuz. As a result, there was speculation about whether we would get it or not. There are enough reports on how we are ensuring a steady flow during these turbulent times,” she said adding that the country has been building up its LPG capacities and even “at this time the way we have ramped up domestic …

India’s decision to hold back Bumrah and Varun, fetches mixed results, as wickets don’t stem run flow

4 min readChennaiMar 1, 2026 10:30 PM IST With the start West Indies got, the highest partnership against India in this World Cup, a total well in excess of 230 was probable. But up against the six-hitting might of the West Indies, at a venue where totals in excess of 200 are the norm, India showed their braver side with the ball. Of course, giving away 195 runs after electing to bowl first will not entirely paint a colourful picture for India, but still this was a game where it could have ended up far worse, especially with the West Indies’ game plan. A side that is blessed with power-hitters all the way till No 8, the Windies gameplan on the night was simple. Having lost their way against South Africa while trying to play in top gear, here their intention was to be in the game for as long as possible. So their openers Shai Hope and Roston Chase – not the most explosive – walked with the plan of ensuring they laid a …

Countries creating roadblocks in flow of talents across borders will be ‘net losers’: Jaishankar on issues linked to immigration, H-1B visas

Countries creating too many roadblocks in flow of professionals across borders will be “net losers” and India needs to convince other nations that the use of talent is for mutual benefit, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said on Wednesday (December 3, 2025). His comments at an interactive session at a conclave on mobility came against the backdrop of concerns over the U.S.’s decision to impose new fees on H-1B visas in line with the Trump administration’s crackdown on immigration. “That they would be net losers if they erect too many roadblocks to the flow of talent. Particularly if you move into an era of advanced manufacturing, you will need more talent,” Mr. Jaishankar said. He was responding to a question on the larger issues linked to immigration including concerns over the H-1B visa programme. Without naming any country, Jaishankar said India needs to convince other nations that the use of “talent across boundaries is to our mutual benefit. “Often the people in the forefront of entrepreneurship and technology would actually make the case for mobility. …
