But these are not connected to each other. So, the idea is that once visitors enter from one end, for example, Asita at ITO, they can access other parks on the floodplain,” said Verma. Vizianagaram Municipal Corporation takes up special drive for removal of shops located on footpaths

The Vizianagaram Municipal Corporation has taken special drive for the removal of petty shops which were set up on footpaths in almost all localities of the City. Tiffin centers, tea shops, panipuri counters, mobile repair centers and others have come up on well developed footpaths with the funds provided by the Union and central governments for the improvement of civic infrastructure in cities and towns. The vehicles parked in haphazard manner near those shops are also causing traffic problems in several areas. Pedestrians who do not find space to walk on footpaths are moving on roads, disrupting the movement of vehicles. With the directive from Vizianagaram Municipal Commissioner Palli Nallanayya, the civic authorities took the initiative in removing those shops to ensure hassle free usage of footpaths near fort junction, Balaji junction, Ring Road and other places. Mr. Nallanayya said that the Corporation has given sufficient time for the shifting of those shops to other places. Many footpaths in Kochi remain inaccessible to wheelchair users

The civic authorities of Kochi are yet to make many footpaths on city roads accessible to those using wheelchairs. The Commissionerate had earlier instructed the authorities to remove bollards along footpaths of recently re-laid roads in the city. A notice was issued, and Kochi Metro Rail Limited was heard regarding the bollards. However, other stakeholders involved in developing footpaths and roads, including the Kochi Corporation and Cochin Smart Mission Limited, were not heard. The initiative was left unfinished as the Commissioner’s tenure ended. According to sources, the Commissioner initiated suo motu action following some media reports. Hyderabad Metro Rail to repair footpaths

Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR), which had significantly improved footpaths, street furniture and landscaping at several places below the overhead metro viaduct and the stations during the construction of the first phase, is planning to repair the pedestrian facilities at ₹73.15 lakh. Currently, most such facilities are showing signs of wear and tear owing to digging of footpaths and adjacent roads by various utilities for repairs or laying pipelines. Kerbs and railings, too, got damaged owing to accidents, and some of the street furniture had been vandalised, according to a senior officials, seeking anonymity. Funds for repair With the State government releasing funds to HMR, it has unveiled a plan to repair the facilities at the following places – Miyapur, JNTU, KPHB, Kukatpally, Punjagutta, Nampally, New Market, L.B Nagar, Balanagar, Moosapet, Punjagutta, Khariatabad, Assembly, Dilsukhnagar and L.B Nagar metro stations. Absence of footpaths in Vijayawada make thoroughfares unsafe to walk on

GIRI Absence of a sidewalk or a footpath on most major thoroughfares in Vijayawada has made using them a nightmare for many people, especially the elderly and students. The city has four main thoroughfares: Mahatma Gandhi Road (Bandar Road), Karl Marx Road (Eluru Road), Road Number 5 and BRTS Road. Of these, the MG Road, where tens of heavy vehicles like buses and lorries ply every 10 minutes, is the busiest. Moreover, it is part of the National Highway 65, also known as the Vijayawada-Hyderabad Expressway. On the MG Road, footpaths have been laid till the Benz Circle, although not continuously. But, beyond the circle, one does not see any sidewalk or footpath. As if the absence of footpaths is not dangerous enough, a few errant motorcyclists ride in the opposite direction in the space meant for pedestrians. “Most roads in the city are too narrow to accommodate a footpath.
