‘Tension na lein, teeno format kheloonga’: Babar Azam shuts down talk of him not playing all 3 formats for Pakistan | Cricket News

4 min readMay 4, 2026 10:03 AM IST After dragging his team Peshawar Zalmi to the Pakistan Super League (PSL) title as the captain and the top scorer in the league, Babar Azam has shut down talk that he could focus on select formats. In his press conference after Zalmi won the PSL 11 title — thanks to a five-wicket victory over Hyderabad Kingsmen — Babar cut short a reporter’s question asking him if he would focus on specific formats. ‘Tension na lein, teeno format kheloonga (Don’t stress, I will play in all three formats),’ Babar told the journalist after interrupting his question. Babar then continued: “It’s not for the player to decide [which format to skip]; a player’s job is to play. In my opinion, every player should play every form of cricket. You shouldn’t focus only on the white ball or T20s. Red-ball cricket gives you immense experience. It teaches you how to build an innings and gives you patience. When you play four-day cricket or any domestic circuit, you gain the experience …

‘Touch above lot of others’: Dinesh Karthik believes Devdutt Padikkal will soon be un-ignorable for India across formats | Ipl News

‘Touch above lot of others’: Dinesh Karthik believes Devdutt Padikkal will soon be un-ignorable for India across formats | Ipl News

3 min readUpdated: Apr 7, 2026 04:27 PM IST Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL title defence is only two games old, but batting coach and mentor Dinesh Karthik already believes that Devdutt Padikkal is already making a case to play for India in all formats of the game. In the two IPL 2026 games that RCB have played — and won — Padikkal has scored 50 off 29 against Chennai Super Kings and 61 off 26 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. This is his second stint with the franchise after he played early in his career for the franchise. “Devdutt Padikkal coming into 2025 was a very different Devdutt Padikkal to the one that left RCB earlier. He has learned to handle everything that comes with playing in the IPL, and the way he has adapted his game has been very impressive. If he continues in this rich vein of form, I don’t think Team India can ignore him across formats. He is batting at a level which is a touch above a lot of other players,” Karthik …

SRH skipper Pat Cummins explains why T20 format’s slam-bang nature is liberating as a bowler | Ipl News

SRH skipper Pat Cummins explains why T20 format’s slam-bang nature is liberating as a bowler | Ipl News

3 min readMar 26, 2026 03:56 PM IST Over the last few years as team totals of 200+ runs have become more commonplace in T20 cricket, the balance of the game has tipped in favour of batters. This contrast between bat and ball is also very stark in the Indian Premier League (IPL) where last season Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) showed the devastation their batting order can wreak with multiple heavy-hitters like Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Heinrich Klaasen and Ishan Kishan in their ranks. But for Pat Cummins, the charge of T20 cricket towards being a batsman’s game has had a liberating effect. “You just have to reset your expectations (as a bowler and as a captain). Going for eight runs an over used to be considered quite high. Now, if you bowl at the start and the end of the innings and you only go for 11 runs an over, that can be match-winning. You just have to reset those expectations within the playing group,” Cummins said in a conversation with the Business of Sport …

Yashasvi Jaiswal scores his maiden ODI century, becomes 6th Indian to score tons in all formats of men’s cricket | Cricket News

Yashasvi Jaiswal on Saturday scored his maiden ODI century and his ninth overall in his international career. Jaiswal got to the mark in 111 balls as he powered India’s chase in their decisive third ODI against South Africa in Visakhapatnam. The 23-year-old already has seven centuries in Test cricket and one in T20Is. This was only Jaiswal’s fourth appearance in ODIs though, a format in which he has had to wait to get a foothold in. Jaiswal is now the sixth Indian to have scored centuries in all formats of men’s cricket and the 32nd overall. The first player to do so was Suresh Raina, followed by Rohit Sharma, India’s stand-in captain KL Rahul, Virat Kohli and current full-time ODI captain Shubman Gill. Mumbai’s Ayush Mhatre breaks Rohit Sharma’s world record with SMAT ton, becomes youngest to hit century in all formats | Cricket News

Mumbai’s Ayush Mhatre breaks Rohit Sharma’s world record with SMAT ton, becomes youngest to hit century in all formats | Cricket News

Ayush Mhatre is fast becoming the next all-format batting sensation to emerge from the Mumbai stables. The 18-year-old affirmed the same on Friday in Lucknow when he broke Rohit Sharma’s world record with an unbeaten century in the 2025-26 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Chasing a 193-run target against Vidarbha at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium B in Lucknow, Mhatre unfurled carnage with eight fours and as many sixes to steer his side home by seven wickets and 13 balls to spare.  The right-hander was only featuring in his 9th senior-level T20 match after having made his debut in the format in the IPL 2025 season earlier this year for the Chennai Super Kings. Earlier in October, the batting prodigy was retained by the five-time champions ahead of the impending IPL 2026 auction in December. Mhatre’s expanding range and maturity have been noted quite early, as he is likely to lead India at the upcoming U-19 World Cup in January 2026. That he broke Mumbai legend Rohit Sharma’s all-format century record, aged …

Shubman Gill’s workload challenge: Short 4-5 day turnaround times, mentally adapting to different formats while travelling the globe | Cricket News

Shubman Gill’s workload challenge: Short 4-5 day turnaround times, mentally adapting to different formats while travelling the globe | Cricket News

India skipper Shubman Gill said on Thursday that he feels at home while playing at Eden Gardens, a stadium that shaped his formative years when he burst onto the scene for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL in 2018 after a successful U-19 World Cup campaign in the same year. It’s, however, ironic that since becoming captain of the India Test and ODI teams, Gill’s concept of ‘home’ has been basically living out of a suitcase. The 26-year-old has been playing and juggling the three formats on a consistent basis. Gill played the England series from June-August. He was then announced as deputy for T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav for the Asia Cup in UAE which went on from September 9-28. There was little rest for the weary skipper however, with Gill then coming back to India to lead in the 2-match West Indies series which went on from October 2-October 14. After the Windies series, Gill had to fly in for a white-ball tour to Australia, consisting of 3 ODIs and 5 T20Is, which …

‘Ridiculously talented’ Shubman Gill won’t find it difficult to navigate different formats: Shane Watson | Cricket News

‘Ridiculously talented’ Shubman Gill won’t find it difficult to navigate different formats: Shane Watson | Cricket News

Navigating three formats as a batter in cricket may be a challenge but Shubman Gill should have no problem in doing so, accordoing to former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson. Gill has this year become a regular in all formats with the Indian management earmarking him as a future full-time captain of all three sides. He is already leading in Test and ODI cricket and is vice-captain to Suryakumar Yadav in T20Is. “It does take time (to make adjustments), and it’s through trial and error that you really realise exactly what you need to do to make those adjustments, and playing in different conditions as well,” Watson is quoted as saying by PTI. “But Shubman is a ridiculously talented batter. He’s got an amazing technique. It’s not going to take him long at all to be able to really navigate his way through the different formats because when someone is as highly skilled as he is, it’s not going to take him too long.” Story continues below this ad Gill had established himself as one of …

Abhishek Sharma hails Shubman Gill as ‘one of best players India has produced in all three formats’

Former junior cricket and Punjab teammate Abhishek Sharma was all praise for his ‘friend’ Shubman Gill, who has recently been handed India captaincy in red-ball cricket after the retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Gill was named India’s 37th Test captain while Rishabh Pant was assigned as his deputy, as the Indian team is set to tour England for a tough five-match Test series. Abhishek said he feels “very proud” of Gill and called him “one of the best players India has produced in all formats”. Story continues below this ad “I think if I see his career you know if I remember the old days when we were just started playing for the U-14 and U-16 Punjab team. As youngsters, we all started with the red ball, from that time to now, it is a big achievement to become India’s Test captain and I feel very proud of him,” said Abhishek in a video released by Star Sports. #AbhishekSharma recalls their early days and now beams with pride as his friend @ShubmanGill becomes …

NRAI plans for only mixed-team formats, making the sport more broadcast-friendly

The inaugural edition of Shooting India League will feature only mixed-team format across disciplines and not individual events in a bid to make the event more audience-friendly, the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) have said. NRAI is set to launch the league between 20th November 2025 and 2nd December 2025. The franchise-based league will have eight teams divided into two pools of four teams in the league stage, which will take place between 21st November and 26th November, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the knockout stages. “The idea is to make the sport of shooting more audience-friendly and broadcast-friendly. Currently, shooting is not broadcast-friendly. We plan to work out a way to capture more TV viewership,” Kalikesh Singh Deo, NRAI President, told The Indian Express. Virat Kohli and RCB’s love story: Now retired from two international formats, winning IPL title is his last big battle | Ipl News

Virat Kohli and RCB’s love story: Now retired from two international formats, winning IPL title is his last big battle | Ipl News

Like a happy old couple, Virat Kohli and Royal Challengers Bengaluru have celebrated the good days and survived the bad ones through 18 summers of the Indian Premier League, the essence of their longevity being stability and dependability, rather than blind, flawless love. Now that he has retired from Test cricket and T20Is, his international duties restricted to ODIs, infrequently calendared, Kohli is all RCB’s. And winning the IPL could be the last big battle Kohli would wage in a glorious career. The love for him overflows and overwhelms. Hundreds turned up to watch him bat in the nets when he returned to the Chinnaswamy on Thursday, before the match against Kolkata Knight Riders on Saturday. Thousands, it is widely rumoured, might turn up in white Kohli shirts, an ode to his Test career. Saturday Night Fever would play out at the Chinnaswamy without a break. Traffic snarls would be endless. All to cheer Kohli to fulfil his elusive dream of the IPL crown. All that remains unfulfilled in Kohli’s staggering career is league silverware. …
