The FIR has alleged a coordinated conspiracy, also involving “insiders”, to defame the FSSAI and undermine public trust in India’s food safety framework. The complaint, filed by Dr Sanjay Kumar, an official with the national food regulator, claims that a network of actors were engaged in a sustained campaign to circulate misleading content and confidential internal documents on platforms such as X and LinkedIn. According to the FIR, registered on March 24, the alleged campaign was “highly coordinated”, with similar posts being rapidly amplified across accounts. Investigators suspect that some of the actors involved may be operating from outside India, raising concerns about possible foreign funding and cross-border influence. FSSAI issues advisory for mandatory registration of independent milk producers

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on Thursday issued an advisory asking milk producers and vendors across the country to mandatorily obtain registration or a licence before carrying out food business activities. The directive was issued by the regulatory compliance division of the authority under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. According to FSSAI, it has come to notice that several milk producers who are not members of dairy cooperative societies and many milk vendors are operating without registering themselves or obtaining the required licence. The authority clarified that only those producers who are registered members of dairy cooperative societies and supply their entire milk to such societies are exempt from this requirement. All other milk producers and vendors must register with FSSAI before starting or continuing their business operations. A bench of Justices J B Pardiwala and V Viswanathan was hearing a public interest litigation filed by charitable trusts 3S and Our Health Society, which have sought directions to the Centre, states and Union territories to implement mandatory Front-of-Pack (FoP) warning labels on packaged foods. FoP labelling is a simplified nutrition system placed on the front of food packets to help consumers make quick and informed purchasing decisions. New Delhi: The Consumer Affairs Ministry is considering issuing guidelines to require hotels and restaurants to clearly mention when they use “analogue paneer” in the dishes served to customers, a top government official said on Monday. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has already made it mandatory for manufacturers to label analogue paneer as “non-dairy” to prevent consumer deception, but these regulations do not currently extend to prepared food served in restaurants. “Analogue paneer looks and tastes like traditional paneer, but it is not paneer. Analogue paneer is cheaper and why not hotels and restaurants reveal it to consumers,” Consumer Affairs Secretary Nidhi Khare told PTI. Ms Khare emphasised that establishments should clearly inform customers whether dishes contain traditional or analogue paneer and price them accordingly. “Not in the name of traditional paneer, they should sell analogue paneer,” she stated.
