Prathamesh Fuge wins compound men’s gold medal

Indian archer Prathamesh Fuge overcame a tough challenge to defeat the defending champion Shamai Yamrom in the men’s compound final at the 2025 Veronica’s Cup, a World Ranking Tournament, in Kamnik, Slovenia, on Sunday. The Indian started the match on a slow note, falling 2 points behind the Israeli archer after two sets. The Indian, however, bounced back with three sets of perfect 30 to force a shoot-off in the final. In the shoot-off, both Fuge and Yamrom shot a perfect 10, but the former won the gold medal by virtue of a 10-ring shot closer to the centre. Earlier in the competition, Fuge defeated former world champion Nico Wiener of Austria and 2023 World Cup Final medalist Indian Prathamesh Jawkar, en route to the final. #Archery 🏹| Veronica’s Cup 2025 — 🇮🇳Prathamesh Bhalchandra Fuge takes down defending champion – Israel’s Shamai Yamrom – to win the GOLD🥇 medal at the World Ranking Tournament. 👏🔥 (📷: World Archery) pic.twitter.com/u3x5WxVZPK — The Bridge (@the_bridge_in) May 25, 2025 Jawkar, after losing to Fuge in the semi-final, was …

Prathamesh Fuge advances to his first World Cup semifinal

Prathamesh Fuge was the standout performer for India in what was otherwise a disappointing campaign for the country’s compound archers at the Yecheon World Cup in South Korea on Thursday. He reached the semifinals of the World Cup circuit for the first time. In the quarterfinals, Prathamesh caused an upset by narrowly defeating former world champion Nico Werner of Austria, 146-145. Werner had recently won the Shanghai World Cup. Earlier, Prathamesh had also claimed a major victory in the round of 16 by edging out the fourth-seeded Emircan Haney of Türkiye, 147-146. Prathamesh will face James Lutz of the USA in the semifinals on Saturday, aiming for his first-ever World Cup medal. In contrast, experienced archers Abhishek Verma and Rajat Chauhan were eliminated in the second round, continuing their struggles. Meanwhile, last week’s finalist Priyansh lost a close quarterfinal match in a shoot-off against the top-seeded Mathias Fullerton of Denmark. Both archers shot a 10 in the shoot-off, but Fullerton advanced as his arrow was closer to the center. In the women’s compound category, Shanghai …

Prathamesh Fuge sets a new national record at the National Squad Selection Trials

Compound archer Prathamesh Bhalchandra Fuge, the 21-year-old archer, created a new national record in the 4×50 metres category in the third phase of the National Squad Selection Trials that took place in the Sports Authority of India in Sonipat on Monday. With a score of 1429 (714+715), he could have possibly broken the world record too, but the tournament is not officially recognized by the World Archery, the international federation of the sport of archery. “This would have been a possible new world record too but unfortunately this tournament is not affiliated with World Archery. I am very thankful to my coach Pravin Sawant sir for his guidance and mentorship. Looking forward to a successful season ahead,” Prathamesh said in an Instagram post. Prathamesh is an up-and-coming talent in the world of archery. In 2023, he delivered stellar performances, winning two gold medals in the Asian Grand Prix Championship, one each in individual and one team event. He recently finished seventh in the Bangkok 2023 Asian Archery Championship. This performance in Sonepat is a testament …
