Steve Harmison says India coach’s ‘milestone’ message was aimed at Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli

3 min readMar 10, 2026 07:25 PM IST Former England fast bowler Steve Harmison said he believed India head coach Gautam Gambhir’s remarks on milestones during the post-match press conference after India won the T20 World Cup 2026 in Ahmedabad were directed towards veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Harmison, with his usual sarcasm, said that he liked Gambhir’s dig at Rohit and Virat, and while he sometimes struggled with Gambhir as a player and a coach, he liked the shots being fired. “I enjoyed that from Gambhir. I thought it was a little dig at Rohit and Virat, talking about not being interested in milestones and only about the team winning… I like that. I sometimes struggle with Gautam. I did struggle with Gautam as a player and I did struggle with him as a coach. But I liked that little dig at Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli,” said Harmison, speaking on the talkSPORT YouTube channel. “We might have everything going in our favour, but it’s about the team. It’s about the dressing room, …

How Jasprit Bumrah’s absence turned final day of the Test and series into an anticlimax

How Jasprit Bumrah’s absence turned final day of the Test and series into an anticlimax

Jasprit Bumrah stood near the stumps on a pitch adjacent to the main pitch. It was in the morning, much before the start of day 3 at the SCG that turned out to be the final day of the match and the series. The question that hung overnight was if Bumrah would be fit to bowl. Pat Cummins would later say that “every time he bowled he seemed to have an impact and took some key wickets. So yeah, no doubt that helped our chase”. By evening there was a sense of flatness even in the large sections of Australian fans in the stands near the dressing rooms, muttering about an “anti-climatic’ end. But in the morning, there was still hope among Indian fans when they spotted Bumrah near the pitch. On the other side, quite a few of the Australian squad were present, many of whom had their necks craned on the Indian side. Bumrah threw one look at them, walked up to the stumps and went through imaginary bowling drills—walking to the stumps, …

Sam Konstas had no business talking to Jasprit Bumrah, says Gautam Gambhir

Sam Konstas had no business talking to Jasprit Bumrah, says Gautam Gambhir

Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir fired back upon Australian coach Andrew McDonald’s comments that stated that the Indian team had tried to intimidate Sam Konstas on the end of Day 3 of the fifth Test in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The incident took place right towards the end of day with Usman Khawaja and Konstas at the crease and Jasprit Bumrah at the bowling end. At one point Khawaja took his time before facing Bumrah and the delay was not something that the Indian bowler took to kindly. Bumrah’s reaction to Khawaja’s delay then got Konstas to square up to Bumrah. The very next ball, Khawaja got himself caught at slips followed by wild celebrations from the Indians with Bumrah facing Konstas and Virat Kohli and the rest of the team crowding the young Aussie. “My conversation to him was just around whether he was okay,” McDonald said about Konstas after the altercation. “Clearly the way that India celebrated that was quite intimidating. It’s clearly within the rules and regulations of the game, as there have …

Gautam Gambhir gives his take on playing attack cricket versus playing situation: There is only one discussion it is the team first ideology that matters | Cricket News

There has been sharp criticism thrown at Rishabh Pant for the shots he played in the Melbourne Test in both innings. In fact, in the second innings, his shot against Travis Head triggered the collapse. Indian coach Gautam Gambhir, when asked about what is his take on the natural game versus playing the situation, said, “There is only one tendency and there is only one discussion it is the team first that ideology that matters it is the team sport you got to play according to the team needs. People can play their natural way but in team sports, the team comes first. In team sports, individuals only contribute. Some honest words are what I can tell and honesty is essential you probably want to go on and achieve great things.” “Every individual knows in what areas to work on and it is not like that I am going to name any individuals here ultimately you win as a team and lose as a team. When someone plays for India his intention is to give …
