Conservative leader Friedrich Merz is all set to be sworn-in as Germany’s new chancellor as the parliament is expected to back the Merz led coalition government in Tuesday’s vote, ending six months of political stalemate in Berlin. Lawmakers are expected to vote in the lower house of parliament for Merz to be the new chancellor of the country as his conservative party CDU/CSU, which won the election in February, was able to secure a coalition agreement with the centre-left Social Democrats. As Merz is set to lead Germany, the pressure would be on him and his CDU/CSU to show leadership as Berlin was left in a political vacuum last November when SPD party’s Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s three-way coalition collapsed while Europe faced several crises.
