It has been a dry week for theatres in Tamil Nadu with no big releases lined up. The makers of Dharani’s Ghilli, starring Vijay and Trisha, made the most of it by re-releasing a remastered 4K version of the 2004 blockbuster in theatres in Tamil Nadu and a few other countries like UK, France and Ireland, much to the delight of fans. With no big movie releases this April in Tamil cinema due to the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, filmmakers and distributors have been re-releasing older blockbusters. Vijay’s film Ghilli, directed by Dharani, was a highly-anticipated re-release after two decades and it hit theatres on April 20. According to latest reports, Vijay’s Ghilli could gross around ₹10 crore worldwide on its opening day. The film has been trending on social media the last few days. Vijay hit a career milestone with his sports action-drama Ghilli in 2004. The movie, co-starring Trisha Krishnan, became the biggest Tamil blockbuster of that year.
