File | Photo Credit: AFP A delegation from Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City), along with officials of the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA), will participate in the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland, from January 19 to 23. The visit comes as GIFT City reports activity across international banking, fund management, fintech, asset leasing, Global Capability Centres (GCCs), and international education. During the meeting, the delegation will hold interactions with business leaders, investors and policymakers. The discussions will cover financial services, banking, technology, fintech, institutional investment and multinational corporations, a press release said. Minister for Municipal Administration P. Narayana visited the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City) in Ahmedabad on the first day of his two-day tour of Gujarat on Sunday. He spoke to the officials there about how GIFT City, spread in 860 acres, had been transformed into the country’s Fintech hub.  Earlier in the day, Mr. Narayana visited the massive statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (the Statue of Unity) at Ekta Nagar in Ahmedabad. He enquired about the materials used to make the world’s tallest statue and other relevant aspects in order to possibly replicate those construction techniques in setting up towering statues of prominent leaders in Amaravati.  Also, the Minister visited the Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology in Ahmedabad. Cognizant on Monday announced plans to establish a state-of-the-art techfin centre at Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City) by February next year. The new facility will serve as a strategic hub for the US-headquartered IT firm for delivering advanced technology solutions for clients in banking, financial services, and insurance (BFSI) industries. “The center will initially house 500 associates with plans to scale to 2,000 employees over the next three years,” a GIFT City statement said. The state government announced on Friday that alcohol would be allowed at hotels/restaurants/clubs offering “Wine and Dine” in Gujarat International Finance Tec-City near the state capital Gandhinagar. Officials, employees and owners working from GIFT city will be exempt from the prohibition law, which makes alcohol consumption illegal across the state. Liquor permit A liquor access permit will be provided to all employees/owners and officials working in GIFT City. The new rules for GIFT city also allow visitors to consume liquor in hotels/restaurants/clubs that have temporary permits in the presence of permanent employees of the concerned company. Accordingly, hotels/restaurants/clubs located in GIFT City will be able to obtain wine and dine facility license there.
