Lighting the fire amid the fuelling of the Maharashtra political spectrum, NCP (SP) leader Eknath Khadse has acknowledged that he had travelled to Delhi. The NCP (SP) leader, however, asserted that he was no longer interested in rejoining the BJP and would remain with Sharad Pawar till the end. Khadse, a former BJP leader, is currently a member of the legislative council (MLC) from the Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (SP). Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP SP) leader Rohit Pawar on Monday launched a fresh agitation in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, accusing the Maharashtra government of failing to honour its commitment to discuss farmers’ concerns over the newly announced farm loan waiver scheme, reported the PTI. Addressing reporters before the protest began, the Karjat-Jamkhed MLA claimed the government had deployed a heavy police presence to discourage demonstrators and warned that a ‘jail bharo’ movement would be launched if the protest was suppressed. Pawar recalled that he had suspended his indefinite hunger strike in Pandharpur earlier this month after Maharashtra minister Girish Mahajan assured him that Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis would convene a meeting with farmers before the state legislature’s monsoon session. However, Pawar alleged that despite the legislature session being underway, no such meeting had taken place. The Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has strongly criticised Water Resources Minister Girish Mahajan and demanded his immediate removal from the state Cabinet and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), reported IANS. The Congress has accused Mahajan of making “anti-national” remarks and of insulting the Indian Armed Forces during a recent visit to Punjab. What triggered the controversy? The issue began after Mahajan attended the 42nd anniversary event of Operation Blue Star on June 6 at the Damdami Taksal headquarters in Chowk Mehta, Amritsar. He attended the event as a representative of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. During the event, Mahajan referred to June 6 as a “kaala din” (black day) and strongly criticised the 1984 military operation carried out at the Golden Temple. The FDA conducted raids on premises linked to Shri Rex International, which operates an office in Vashi, Navi Mumbai, and a warehouse in Bhiwandi.
