A fire broke out at a multi-storey building near the police station in Sadar Bazar late Wednesday night, an official of the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) said. The DFS received a call at 9.23 pm about flames erupting inside a building that houses multiple storage units, the official said, reported news agency PTI.  “Three water tenders and one water bowser were initially rushed to the spot. At 9.42 pm, two additional water bowsers were sent following a request,” he said.  The blaze had spread to a polythene godown on the second floor and a plastic bottles storage area on the third floor of the building, which is about 100 square yards and comprises ground plus three floors, he added, reported PTI.  The fire was brought under control and doused at 1.45 am. A major fire broke out in a mattress godown at Kalamassery near Kochi city leaving the building fully gutted on Saturday (March 8, 2025) around 10 a.m. No causality has been reported so far. The fire has reportedly spread to nearby buildings. Vehicles parked in the godown have been completely gutted. A 220kV Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) power line has also collapsed after getting caught in the fire. The snapped line also hampered the timely arrival of the fire engines. More than 100 monkeys died after inhaling a pesticide sprayed in a Food Corporation of India (FCI) godown in Hathras of Uttar Pradesh and the bodies were stealthily buried in a pit, police on Friday (November 22, 2024) said. The bodies were taken out for post-mortem by a team of veterinarians. Circle Officer Yogendra Krishna Narayan said the police came to know about the deaths on Wednesday. The police registered a case against the employees of FCI and started an investigation. According to the police, the chemical in question was aluminium phosphide sprayed on wheat sacks to protect the cereal grain from insects and rodents in the FCI warehouse on November 7. A troop of monkeys entered the warehouse through a broken window of the godown on the night of November 7 and ended up inhaling the gas. When the workers opened the warehouse on November 9, they found several monkeys dead. They allegedly chose not to inform their seniors about it and buried the monkeys in a pit.
