Assam Congress chief Gogoi calls Pradyut Bordoloi’s exit ‘unfortunate’| India News

Assam Congress chief Gogoi calls Pradyut Bordoloi’s exit ‘unfortunate’| India News

Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi on Wednesday called the resignation of senior party leader and MP Pradyut Bordoloi unfortunate, but a personal decision. Gaurav Gogoi terms Bordoloi’s exit as unfortunate, but personal decision. Bordoloi, the sitting MP from Nagaon, had resigned from Congress on Tuesday, citing differences and allegations of being humiliated. He joined the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday ahead of the Assembly polls in Assam on April 9. “We view his decision as unfortunate. The Congress gave him a ticket in the last Lok Sabha election. In the current Assembly election, the party also gave a ticket to a member of his family (Bordoloi’s son Prateek from the Margherita seat). Yet he remains upset for personal reasons,” Gogoi said in Dibrugarh on his arrival from Delhi. Responding to a question on the party’s stand regarding the candidature of Bordoloi’s son, Gogoi said, “I have sympathy and moral support for Prateek Bordoloi. Whatever decision he wishes to take, I will speak on behalf of the party.” Bordoloi was chairman of the Congress’s …

The poll battle is expected to be as much a fight of narratives — the Congress’s politics of inclusivity and secularism versus the BJP’s campaign talking points built around alleged minority appeasement of the Opposition party, alleged demographic changes resulting from “infiltration”, and its development politics — as a clash between Sarma and state Congress president Gaurav Gogoi. Here are 5 things to watch out for as the campaign gets underway: * CM at the top High on confidence, Sarma will seek his second term as CM, with a mix of strongman politics, polarising rhetoric, development plank, and a plethora of beneficiary cash schemes. ‘Speaker is not voice of Govt’: Gaurav Gogoi leads Opposition attack as Lok Sabha takes up resolution seeking Om Birla’s removal | India News

3 min readNew DelhiMar 10, 2026 02:08 PM IST Lok Sabha witnessed another showdown Tuesday as the House formally took up the Opposition’s resolution to remove Speaker Om Birla, the first such motion against a presiding officer in nearly 40 years. While the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA)’s numerical majority makes the move largely symbolic, the debate allowed the Opposition to place its allegations of bias against the Chair on record inside Parliament and to sharpen its attack on the government over the functioning of the House. Congress MP Dr Mohammad Jawed moved the resolution seeking the removal of Speaker Birla, alleging that the Chair has failed to maintain the impartiality required to command the confidence of all sections of the House. The session began with an immediate clash over who should preside during the debate. With Speaker Birla voluntarily stepping aside on “moral grounds” and the post of Deputy Speaker remaining vacant, the Chair was occupied by BJP MP Jagdambika Pal from the panel of chairpersons. The Opposition raised questions about how it was …
