The Microsoft-backed AI firm reportedly believes it did not receive the commercial and strategic benefits it had expected from the deal that brought ChatGPT integration to Apple devices. The partnership, unveiled in 2024 as part of the company’s “Apple Intelligence” push, allowed Siri to route some user queries to ChatGPT and enabled iPhone users to sign up for ChatGPT subscriptions directly through Apple’s ecosystem. OpenAI had expected the arrangement to significantly boost subscriptions, visibility, and deeper integration of its AI models across Apple’s apps and services. However, Bloomberg and Reuters reported that OpenAI now feels Apple has not expanded the collaboration meaningfully enough.
