They Will Kill You movie review: The Zazie Beetz film is all blood and gore | Movie-review News

3 min readMar 27, 2026 02:41 PM IST They Will Kill You movie review: “When the poor give to the rich, the devil laughs.” That’s the longest — and clearly, it thinks, the deepest — sentence They Will Kill You has in its vocabulary, and that too is a quote from the 16th-century Italian goldsmith-sculptor-author Benvenuto Cellini. But, for all that self-aggrandising pretentiousness, the devil, who at least has a sense of devilry about him, is hardly likely to be amused – forget laughing. A pastiche of Quentin Tarantino, minus that director’s sharp dialogue and incisive score, this film directed by Kirill Sokolov is blood and bore. A little more of the red stuff squirting out of body parts, and Satan himself may have choked. As for “the poor giving to the rich”, or the Whites giving it to the Blacks (which is one way of looking at it), They Will Kill You is not very choosy once the bloodletting starts. The socialist pretensions, such as they are, end literally on the first floor, where …

Kareena Kapoor highlighted the rise of hyper-masculinity and the focus on violence in films. Kareena Kapoor on trend of hyper-masculine films Kalyani spoke about how the audience dictates where cinema is heading and even influences casting, adding that it is not just producers sitting behind desks who decide trends. She described hyper-masculinity as the current dominant trend and said, “Right now, I am going to call this a trend because I believe it’s a trend and it’s not going to last. But the trend has always been about spectacle. Every scene has to be sensational and shocking. And I think it translates that you can show spectacle with violence and easily shocking things. People are thinking that’s what’s selling cinema. …

Despite earning a strong 84% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, the Sam Rockwell starrer lagged behind the above-mentioned titles during its opening weekend in North America. Conscious decision to avoid violence & gore in ‘Mrs Deshpande’: Madhuri Dixit

Conscious decision to avoid violence & gore in ‘Mrs Deshpande’: Madhuri Dixit Helmed by Nagesh Kukunoor, the show follows an imprisoned female serial killer who is approached by the police after a string of murders mirrors her trademark style. Filmmaker Tigmanshu Dhulia on new-age cinema trend: ‘Unnecessary gore, demon-like looks, hyper-musculine anti-heroes’

Filmmaker Tigmanshu Dhulia on new-age cinema trend: ‘Unnecessary gore, demon-like looks, hyper-musculine anti-heroes’

Filmmaker Tigmanshu Dhulia has major problems with the violence, bloodshed, hyper-musculinity and rough anti-hero looks of actors in most action-packed films today. Calling out heroes wearing demon-like looks in superhit films, he is surprised that they are doing well at the box office. Tigmanshu Dhulia at Koshala Literature Festival held in Lucknow “The problem with today’s films, which are being made in abundance and are being loved by the audience, is with the angry characters! These KGFs, Kantaras and all show too much violence and bloodshed. This maar-kaat started with Baahubali (2015) and is just growing,” says Tigmanshu. He adds, “Bematlab ki maar-kaat rahe hain, khoon baha rahe hain! And, in a series, such films are coming and are being liked by the audience.” Trying to decode their appeal, he says, “Probably, there is an anger in society and people are not able to vent it out, so they are maybe connecting with these films and liking them. I don’t understand the DNA of such films, but personally, I don’t like it at all.” The filmmaker …

Nordic Gore Sequel Falls Short Of Its Predecessor

Sisu: Road To Revenge North America Box Office (Photo Credit – Instagram) Finnish director Jalmari Helander steps back into the spotlight with Sisu: Road to Revenge, the follow-up to his 2023 sleeper hit Sisu. The film hit US theaters on Friday, with Jorma Tommila returning as the silent and stubborn Aatami Korpi, joined by Stephen Lang and Richard Brake. It arrived with sharp blades and louder ambition, though it slipped into the shadows as Ariana Grande’s Wicked: For Good stormed the box office with a record-breaking glow that no grenade could dim. Sisu: Road To Revenge Box Office: Softer Domestic Opening With Wider Reach Sisu: Road to Revenge pulled in $1.2 million on Friday across 2,222 theaters in the US, as per Box Office Mojo. Sony Pictures handled the distribution, aiming to expand the Nordic action title into a broader market. However, the number looked even softer when placed next to the first Sisu, which managed $1.3 million with barely half the footprint at around 1,000 theaters. That film kept growing week after week until …
