Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] State secretary M.V. Govindan on Sunday said that no one would be protected in the ongoing investigation into the alleged gold theft at the Sabarimala temple. Not a single grain of gold should go missing from the temple, he added. Reacting to the bail granted to Tantri Kandararu Rajeevaru in the case, Mr. Govindan said the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe was still under way and that conclusions on charges could be drawn only after its completion. “Our position is clear. Whoever is involved will be arrested. No one will be shielded,“ he said. ‘Politicising issue’ He alleged that Congress leaders were also linked to the case and criticised what he termed selective outrage. Referring to earlier allegations surrounding a missing ritual pot, he claimed there had been little discussion when accusations were raised against Congress leader K.C. Veteran journalist K Govindan Kutty passes away at 81

Veteran journalist and author K Govindan Kutty has died after a brief illness here, family sources said on Thursday. Kutty, 81, is survived by wife, son and daughter. He breathed his last at his residence here on February 18.  He was the journalist who broke the news of the air crash involving the then Prime Minister Morarji Desai in 1977 at Jorhat in Assam.  Desai had survived the crash. K. Govindan Kutty, veteran journalist and author, passed away in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday. He was 81. During a long and eventful journalistic career, Mr. Govindan Kutty had worked with news organisations including the All India Radio, The Indian Express and India Today. Highly respected among his peers, Mr. Govindan Kutty was the first to report then Prime Minister Morarji Desai’s miraculous survival in a 1977 plane crash in Jorhat, Assam. He was then the AIR correspondent accompanying the Prime Minister. Mr. Govindan Kutty has written several books including ‘Seshan: An Intimate Story’ about former Chief Election Commissioner T.N. Seshan, ‘K. Karunakaran, a Political Biography,’ on the former Kerala Chief Minister, and ‘Vararuchi’s Children: Aspects of Kerala.’ Other works include ‘K.M. Mani, A Study in Regionalism.’ Mr. Govindan Kutty leaves behind his wife Saradamony and two children. Ajith Kumar from Law and Order duties, describing it as “a timely decision.” Responding to questions from the media in Kannur on Monday (October 7, 2024) on whether the action against Mr. Ajith Kumar was punitive, Mr. Govindan insisted that the Kerala government had “kept its word” by taking appropriate steps. Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] central committee member E.P. Jayarajan did not attend the memorial meet for former CPI(M) State secretary Chadayan Govindan held at Payyambalam on Monday. The absence, despite an earlier press release stating his participation alongside Politbureau member A. Vijayaraghavan, was attributed to Mr. Jayarajan’s ongoing Ayurvedic treatment. The meet, marking the 26th death anniversary of Govindan, saw notable CPI(M) leaders in attendance. Mr. Jayarajan, who has been notably reticent following his removal as Left Democratic Front convener, has refrained from participating in party events or engaging with journalists. .
