During a conversation with journalists of The Hindu, he described as a “silly concern” the view that the proposed exercise would be disadvantageous to the southern States. “There is a proportional increase across the country. Manoharan Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Saturday (April 11, 2026) held discussions with Saudi Arabia’s Trade Minister Majid bin Abdullah Al-Qassabi on ways to strengthen supply chains disrupted due to the West Asia crisis, after holding talks with his counterparts from the UAE, Bahrain and Kuwait. All these countries are members of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) with which India is negotiating a free trade agreement. RS passes Jan Vishwas Amendment Bill, Goyal emphasises trust-based governance

The Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2026, was passed by the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, after it was passed in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal emphasised that the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2026, is designed to foster trust-based governance. Speaking in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, he said, “There will be fear in those who break the law knowingly.” The Minister highlighted that with this reform, they have attempted to “provide protection through adequate civil mechanisms” and ” tried to bring swift and proportionate penalties.” Clarifying that the Bill does not dilute essential regulations like the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, Goyal assured the House that “very strict and severe criminal punishment” is imposed for those who manufacture, import, or sell spurious drugs without approval from the drug controller. The legislation aims to promote a governance model based on trust and proportionate regulation, while reducing compliance burden and decriminalising minor offences to facilitate smoother business operations and improve citizens` quality of life. Malabar Gold & Diamonds announced on Wednesday (March 25) that it will allocate ₹200 crore to its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes in the financial year 2026-27. One of the largest retail jewellery groups in the world, Malabar made the announcement at the Dr Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi, with Union commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal present at the event. At the programme, Union minister Piyush Goyal launched the distribution of educational scholarships for 33,000 girl students across the country.
