Mumbai, There is a “pressing need” to help the families of soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the country, the Bombay High Court has said while ordering the Enforcement Directorate to pay half the interest accrued on ₹46 crore deposited by it to an armed forces welfare fund. Granting relief to SPCL, HC asks ED to pay interest on deposited amount to armed forces fund A bench of Justices A S Gadkari and R R Bhonsale passed the direction while dismissing an appeal filed by the ED against a 2019 order of the Appellate Tribunal which set aside the attachment of assets worth ₹141.50 crore belonging to Shapoorji Pallonji & Company Ltd . The HC had stayed the tribunal’s order after the ED filed the appeal in 2019, but directed the central agency to deposit ₹46.5 crore with the court. In its final order of December 23, 2025, a copy of which was made available this week, the high court upheld the tribunal’s decision, and ordered the deposited amount to be returned to SPCL. The …

Municipal commissioner Amit Kumar on Monday suspended an executive engineer from the civic body’s road division for granting unauthorised permission to Bharti Airtel Limited to set up three mobile towers on wheels at the Sector-34 exhibition ground during singer Diljit Dosanjh’s concert on December 14. The Karnataka High Court Friday directed the state police chief to take immediate steps to ensure that any person arrested in the state is provided the details of the reasons for the arrest in writing as prescribed by the Supreme Court in 2023. A single-judge bench of the high court issued the directions to the director general of police in the course of granting bail to Kannada film star Darshan Thoogudeepa and six others in the murder of one Renukaswamy who was allegedly stalking the actor’s woman friend Pavitra Gowda on social media. Image Source : FILE PHOTO Supreme Court of India In a significant development, the Supreme Court on Thursday said it will decide the constitutional validity of penal provisions in the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) which grant immunity from prosecution to a husband for the offence of rape if he forces his wife, who is not a minor, to have sex with him. While hearing the matter, a bench of Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud and Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra sought views of the petitioners on Centre’s contention that making such acts punishable would severely impact the conjugal relationship and cause serious disturbances in the institution of marriage. Senior advocate Karuna Nundy, appearing for one of the petitioners, opened the arguments and referred to the provisions of the IPC and BNS on marital rape. “It is a constitutional question.
