ICC T20 World Cup: Shimron Hetmyer, Gudakesh Motie shine to help West Indies crush Zimbabwe by 107 runs in Super Eights game | Cricket News

4 min readMumbaiFeb 23, 2026 11:19 PM IST Just over an hour before play began on Monday, Shimron Hetmyer stood at the crease on the pitch for West Indies’ Super 8s clash against Zimbabwe. The sun was dipping, teammates were in the middle of their routines, but the left-hander was already visualising what might unfold later that evening. Hetmyer has never hidden what he enjoys most about batting. In an interview several years ago, he had spoken about his love for clearing the rope and why that thrill meant more to him than simply finishing as the top scorer for his side. “People will ask who is going to make the most runs and stuff like that. I just say I am going to hit the most sixes, and everyone starts laughing. I just bat as I see it, but if I get a ball I can hit for six, I will. I do like hitting sixes,” he had told The Telegraph in 2019. On Monday night, he showed that his appetite remained undiminished by …

‘We were probably a little bit careful’: Harry Brook reacts to England’s 30-run loss to West Indies in T20 World Cup | Cricket News

3 min readFeb 12, 2026 08:38 AM IST England captain Harry Brook admitted his side were “probably a little bit careful” in their chase of 197 runs after falling short by 30 runs against the West Indies in a crucial T20 World Cup group clash at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday. Chasing nearly 200, England believed the target was within reach at the halfway stage. However, the expected dew never arrived, the pitch did not quicken under the lights, and the West Indies’ spinners tightened their grip through the middle overs. “We thought it was chasable, definitely,” Brook said at the post-match press conference. “We obviously planned for dew, and it didn’t quite get as dewy as we thought. It didn’t quite slide onto the bat as much as we were expecting.” The turning point, according to Brook, was not panic but hesitation. “One thing I would say is we were probably a little bit careful. Chasing nearly 200 is always a big ask. Like I said, we thought the pitch would get a little …

West Indies Scent Series-Levelling Win vs Pakistan In 2nd Test After Positive Day 2

Kevin Sinclair led a West Indian spin trio to give the tourists a sniff of a series-levelling win in the second Test Sunday with Pakistan on the ropes at 76-4 after day two in Multan. The gutsy West Indies scored 244 in their second innings to set the hosts a daunting 254-run target on a spinning Multan Stadium pitch. At stumps, Saud Shakeel was unbeaten on 13 and nightwatchman Kashif Ali on one. The West Indies need only six more wickets to draw the series 1-1. Pakistan need a demanding 178 runs for victory. They won the first Test by 127 runs, also in Multan. Sinclair (2-41) opened the floodgates by trapping Pakistan skipper Shan Masood leg before for two and then had the prized wicket of Babar Azam caught for a dour 31. Azam had added 43 with Kamran Ghulam, who was dropped twice, on two and six, but the lapses did not prove costly to the West Indies. Gudakesh Motie had Muhammad Hurraira for two and Jomel Warrican dismissed Ghulam for …

In fact, despite the crushing defeat, West Indies bowlers Gudakesh Motie, Jomel Warrican and Jayden Seales set a record – not with the ball, but with the bat. The trio set the record of the first instance in the 148 years of Test cricket history, since the first Test match in March, 1877, when the three last batters made the highest scores for the team in an innings. In their first innings, West Indies were tottering at 66/8, but managed to post 137 in the end thanks to the efforts of their number 9, 10 and 11 batters. Motie, coming in at No. 9, scored 19 runs, No. 10 Warrican top-scored with 31 and No. 11 Seales hit 22. No other batter in the top eight crossed more than 11, making …
